Everyone knows that when Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. But what happened after? Humpty Dumpty loves being high on the wall, watching birds -- that is, until after his famous fall. Now terrified of heights, Humpty can longer do many of the things he loves most. Will he

find the courage to face his fear?

I don't want to spoil this for anyone, but I seriously recommend for kids and adults.

Lessons about resiliency (and bold next steps) for everyone.

Humpty Dumpty may have been put together again in body, but his soul needed time to recover from the fall.

This is a fun book about Humpty Dumpty after the fall. It turns out all the kings men WERE able to put him back together again, and he was fixed on the outside, but not entirely on the inside. After his fall H.D. developed a fear of heights. This picture books talks about how he worked up his
Show More
courage and climbed back on that wall. We are talking about "grit" in school this year and this will be a great book to share with my students. I gave it only 4 stars though because I don't love the final page. H.D. is an egg, of course, and at the end of this book [spoiler alert!] he hatches into a bird that flies away. I know the message is supposed to be "you can become something better than who you are now by overcoming your fears," but seeing the egg crack open, shells falling down, and the bird flying away, just makes me sad that the egg is no longer. He worked so hard to overcome his fear, then broke and shattered away.

Adorable book, and a great message for children.

The book revisits the famous Humpty Dumpty after the "great fall". He is banged up and cracked in quite a few places. He is now terrified of heights, until one day his paper airplane lands on, not just any wall, but THE wall. Will he regain the
Show More
courage he once had to climb that wall?

This book teaches children the importance of getting back up when you fall down and never giving up no matter how scared you are.

I love Dan Santat! I have only recently been introduced to his books and each one is a treat to open, read and read again! This one has a clear message of getting back up and trying again after you fall down/make a mistake. It would be a wonderful read aloud (for character building/Growth Mindset)

and addition to a classroom library for students to read at their pleasure. Santat uses value and saturation to great effect. Also, each page has so much movement and the reader gets many different perspectives of Humpty's world.

Humpty Dumpty's story after he fell of the wall. This time the kings men were able to put him back together again. But poor Humpty now was very afraid of heights and it really affected him. Eventually he overcame his fear and hatched his egg into glorious golden bird.

After the Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again by Dan Santat is a humorous picture book that takes place in England. It is about Humpty Dumpty's famous fall and goes into how his life changed. At Kings County Hospital, the king's men put him back together again. After his fall, he became
Show More
afraid of heights and this kept him from doing some of his favorite things. He comes up with an imaginative idea to conquer his fear and succeeds. The message to the story is that "Life begins when you get back up." This is an excellent book for people of all ages who need encouragement and inspiration to conquer their fears.

I'm not the target market. That said, there are some picture books which would garner 5 stars from me, no question. (Sendak's "Outside Over There" or "Higglety Pigglety Pop" or Waber's "Nobody is Perfick" are examples of books for youngsters that I adore, so I know it's possible!)

The art was very
Show More
well done, but the story didn't grip me, and the ending essentially gives me nightmares, so I can only imaginary how an impressionable child might react! If you're thinking of this for your child, read it first to the end and gauge how they might respond to the conclusion.

(Note: 5 stars = amazing, wonderful, 4 = very good book, 3 = decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful. I'm fairly good at picking for myself so end up with a lot of 4s).

This story is a modified story about Humpty Dumpty and how he got back up after he fell and got hurt. The book explained his story and why he got up on the wall (He liked to see the birds in the sky). Humpty Dumpty climbed back up the wall and made it to the top, where he hatched into a flying bird.

A beautifully illustrated book about what happened to Humpty after he was put back together by the king's men and learns how to face his fears.

We all know the story of how Humpty Dumpty fell from the wall, but what happened afterwards? Humpty narrates his own story and tells exactly what followed after his notorious tumble.

This is a beautiful tale about resiliency, which can easily be extended to a metaphor about coping after a trauma and
Show More
learning to love life again. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and help to tell the story.

I highly recommend this for storytimes and/or readalouds, especially for slightly older kids (preschoolers and elementary school-age, rather than infants and toddlers) who will know the fairy tale/rhyme being referenced.

This is so highly creative that I read it three times in order to allow the stunning images to sink in! Humpty Fell off a high wall, we learned that in kindergarten. But, we new knew that Humpty Dumpty, while remaining incredibly afraid of heights, was cracked and that was that.

Until, he overcame
Show More
his severe fear of getting up and climbing back on the top of the wall! And if he sat still and didn't jump around, he could remain where he belonged -- right on top.

This is such a wonderful story for little ones who might by bullied, or fell down hard enough to hurt themselves, an later, after awhile, with fortitude, learn to overcome

BIG hit with 4th graders this morning.

This was a very creative book in my opinion and I am glad I was able to be introduced to it. I love how it goes off of the classic Humpty Dumpty and is the continued version in a way. This is an awesome and inspirational book. I think students would enjoy this read, but should first be introduced
Show More
to the original Humpty Dumpty prior to this one.
