to sing.” Some of the similes will require a lot of creativity for a parent to interpret: “Like the rain, I’m here to pour and drip and fall until I’m full,” and “Like the water, here to swell. Like the fire, here to burn.”

The text vacillates between banal and bizarre, but the illustrations by Keturah A. Bobo are terrific. In an interview on "The Brown Bookshelf," she stated:

“As an artist it is my duty to make art that inspires, uplifts, and advocates for my community. Nothing is more important in my art than this.”

Evaluation: The messages are intended as positive, and even kids who don’t yet read will love the images of all different kinds of young girls.

I love this story because it can be hard for our students of color to feel like they fit in sometimes, but this books tells the story of a young African American girl who is enough and explains all of the things she can do.

The message is good, but not delivered in a way that's super engaging -- however, the illustrations are stand-out, a really glorious celebration of diverse girls.

This book affirms the message that we are all here for a purpose, here to shine and be exactly who we were meant to be while respecting everyone else and who they are meant to be and who they are right now
