MAPLE is a super sweet picture book about a curious and fun-loving girl who plays by a maple tree planted by her parents that grows alongside her. Maple is comforted and buoyed by her namesake tree and finds it especially helpful when a little sister comes into the picture.

The illustrations are as

lovely as the story, including a simple, evocative line work, beautiful stamped leaf textures, and a very pleasing palette. This book is perfect for any nature lovers, families about to add a new sibling, or any child curious about the world around her.

Maple is a little girl that spends a great deal of time playing by her Maple tree that her parents planted for her when she was born. Maple is dealing with a lot of emotions when she finds out that there will soon be a new baby. Very cute book.

When Maple was born her parents planted a little maple tree. The two small ones grew up together. One day a new tree sprouted, so did a new baby. Maple was a big sister. She tried her best to be a good sister, but sometimes there was nothing she could do to make the baby happy. The maple tree

turned out very important for the two sisters.

The last 1 ½ to 2 years I’ve been much less enthusiastic about writing book reviews. I usually still review novels and most full length non-fiction books, but even though I thought writing reviews could be helpful for some readers, I’ve almost ceased to write reviews for vegan cookbooks, art

books, and picture books. But after rereading this one a few times, and loving it more with every reread, I decided I should say at least a few words about it.

I’m also happy to see that there is a sequel, and I’ve reserved it at the library.

The pictures here are just enchanting. Very simple but very pretty and they tell the story just as well as the words do.

I love the character Maple, how sweet and kind and thoughtful she is. I enjoyed the imaginative and free form play in which she engages. The story is fun, and funny. I laughed a bit, smiled a lot. I enjoyed the love of nature that shines through the pages, and also the showing of the seasons and of outdoor play.

It’s a particularly fun book to read aloud. I read it aloud (without visuals, though I described some of them) to an adult friend and she loved the book too. I would thoroughly enjoy reading this one to a child/children.

It’s a fine book for anyone but particularly apropos for children whose families are about to have a new baby/child in the family and children who appreciate nature and using their imaginations.

maple is an only child and her best friend is a maple tree that was planted at her birth. Then a willow sapling appears next to it and her mom announces that she will have a new sister soon. even though maple can't always make her sister happy she loves her and the maple tree dances for them both.

This is such an adorable book! The illustrations are beautiful, and the story is wonderful. I can't wait to read the second book!

Maple's best friend is a tree. I LOVE IT! Like all good friends, the tree is there when Maple needs to be loud, rest, and share.
