green. In some pages, everything would be a kind of grey pencil with the only colors on the characters—Amos and the animal/s. The text didn't rhyme, but it followed a rhythm and involved animals at the zoo. Since many kids love the zoo and love at least one animal housed there, I can see how this would appeal to young audiences. The word choice of the text is also good—it paints great pictures in the head. (Example, with some fabulous vocabulary underlined by me: “Every morning when the alarm clock clanged, he swung his legs out of bed and swapped his pajamas for a fresh-pressed uniform.” (pg 1).
