There's a potato that's bored and it's up to one little girl to show this potato all that a child can do during the day. I truly laughed out loud when the main character tried to convince the bored potato of all that could be done to cure the "Blahs." The illustrations along with how the words are

typed really help the reader to express the emotions of the characters and keeps the reader interested in the book. A great twist on the common theme of a child being bored.

This hilarious story is about a girl who basically gets so “bored” she finds herself talking to a potato who talks back to her. In the process she pretends that she is many different things in order to impress the potato. She realizes that she is not so bored after all. This creative and funny

story is a great book for children of all ages. Ohi’s cute illustrations and Black’s perfect comic timing make for a fun ride that should leave every reader feeling amused and certainly not bored. This book was very cute and simple. It was about a little girl who was bored so she began to talk to a potato who thought she

was boring. Throughout the book the little girl proceeded to show the potato all the ways children were NOT boring by using her imagination. The book was short, sweet and therefore perfect for preschool, kindergarten and first grade. I think children would really enjoy the humor in this book. This book gave opportunities to ask the children questions about what they thought the little girl would imagine next. This would allow the students to use their imagination. As a teacher I could follow up this reading with having my students draw a picture of something fun they could imagine doing.

Charming story of a girl and her potato? confronting a day with nothing obvious to do. While my kids are too old to share this with now, I would have loved to read it to them.

I'm bored is about a little girl that is so bored that she starts talking to a potato but the potato just refuses to hear all her ideas. She realizes that she has a great imagination and because of it there is no way she should be bored.

There is a little girl who is very bored. She had nothing until she met a potato. She thinks her and the potato can do something fun but, the potato is bored and thinks kids are boring and flamingos are fun. The little girl starts showing the potato all the things kid can do that aren't boring at

all. But everything she does is boring to the potato. The little girl shows the potato that kids can use their imagination that takes them anywhere in the world and lets them do anything like fly, or be a pirate. The little girl figures out kids are not boring and leaves the boring potato. Then the potato meets a flamingo and think she is going to have some fun now but, the flamingo is bored. This is a very funny story anyone will enjoy no matter what age they are. I read the story to my little brother and he loved it; we were both laughing.

I’m Bored by Michael Ian Black was an interesting story that did a lot of things I like that can keep a readers attention. I liked the way that the text was in different patters for different situations. On some pages the text arched across the page and was close to the illustration that it
Show More
connected to. For example, girl said “kids can play games” and “kids can” was behind the girl and “play games” was next to a ring toss game. On another page she said that kids can spin in circles and the text was in a spiraled pattern that went along with the spinning. Having the text like this is more interesting then just standard text in a straight line across the page. I also thought the illustrator, Debbie Ridpath Ohi, was very creative with how she did the illustrations. On one of the pages the girl said “kids can swing!” and the girl was drawn swinging around a jungle and a monkey was holding the potato, she said “kids can jump!” and the girl was skiing and the potato was the head of a snowman and she said “Kids can fly” and she was in outer space and you could see a small dot that was the potato on earth. The illustrations went along with the text very well also, like with these examples and all other situations, like when she said kids can do ninja kicks and the girl is doing a ninja kick. The meaning of the story was that even though children complain about being bored, they have plenty of things that can keep them entertained. The author even dedicated the book to this purpose at the beginning saying, “For my children, Elijah and Ruthie, who are soooooo bored.” The girl complained about being bored but once the potato said it was bored she thought of many way kids can keep themselves entertained, like doing activities and using their imagination.

Had to get this because of the title. My kids knew better than to admit they were bored - if they did, they were given tasks. I can see the appeal of this to the right audience though. I just think it's a shame there is a right audience. The world is full of so many things to do - and that is the

point of the book, so ok, fine. I guess my main problem with it is that I can see giving the book to the child who says 'I'm bored' and the child will either feel preached to or not even see how the book applies to them. Truly, this review needs the caveat: YMMV.
