While Joe is playing his favorite game involving imaginary sharks, a kid asks him what happened to his leg. Soon the other kids are asking questions and guessing what happened to his leg, veering to the ridiculous ("Did it fall off in the toilet? Was it lions?") which clearly annoys Joe. Eventually

the kids are steered back to the excitement of the game and Joe never does mention what happened. I can see a guided conversation with preschoolers after a read-aloud, discussing how bodies are all different and beautiful and creating empathy. An author's note to parents offers suggestions on addressing when curious children have very direct questions about others' visible disabilities. Show Less
