A debut for Oh, Our Favorite Day pairs a simple but poignant narrative with lovely mixed media illustrations. I appreciated the calm and gentle nature of the story here, the way in which Papa's routine is used to emphasize the special nature of Thursdays, and of his relationship with his granddaughter. One gets the sense that a deep reserve of feeling is running along just underneath the calm surface of Papa's life. The artwork, created using watercolor, gouache and cut paper, is colorful, cute, and quite expressive. Recommended to anyone looking for new and engaging picture-books featuring the grandparent-grandchild bond.
