This book's inspiration was obviously the fact that both authors were carried until they were three. The illustrations are striking and colourful. It takes you on a journey throughout various cultures showing many different methods of babywearing. Both my 1yo and 4yo loved this book as did I.

There are 11 different cultures that describe how they carry their young ones. Each cultural is different in a variety of ways, but they are similar in the way they carry their young ones. Each carry the young one on their back or their side with a cloth.

I like the book because it is
Show More
multicultural. It shows how the different culturals are not so different. They all work together to care for the young ones and each cultural has chores and tasks to do daily.

I would have the children draw a young one being carried by a relative. I would bring stuff animals to class and some cloths and have the children practice how it feels like to carry a stuffed animal on their back or side.

Summary: This book is about how different cultures and countries carry their babies around. It teaches children how cultures can do their daily work and still tend to their children. It also show how different cultures adapt to their surrounding. For example in Guatemala, newborn Rosha, snuggles in
Show More
a shawl tied around his mother. Papua New Guinea, Gogomo, sways in a net bag from his mother's head. A net bag because it is hot in New Guinea.

Personal Reaction: This was a good book to show children how other cultures take care/carry their babies around. This book was very interesting because it showed many cultures and how the babies were taking care of. For example the book shows one baby in a net bag/sling, because it is so hot in this country.

Classroom extensions: 1. I would use this book in the classroom if we are talking about different cultures. 2. I would use this book during a lesson that discusses differences. This book discusses differences of culture and where people live.

I really found this book to be adorable although a bit repetitive. Every two-page spread shows a different family and the back of the book is filled with more detailed explanations of the different cultures. It is not just about how the babies are carried though; many of the pages describe a quick
Show More
run-through of their daily lives. It is a very interesting look into the different customs and adaptations we have come up with around the world and I could see it being used in an ESL or social studies classroom.

Summary:
This book is all about babies from all around the world. Each page describes a baby from a differnt culture and how they are carried around. It describes who carries them, in what, and where they are from.

Personal Reaction:
I thought this was a great book to show how all different cultures
Show More
can do something the same, just in a differnt way. It has a great author's note at the end that went into detail about each culture, and why they carried the babies the way they did.

Classroom Extensions:
1. Great way to start a discussion on how each culture is different and alike.
2. Discuss how their moms might have carried them, and have them draw some pictures of moms and their babies.

Summary: This book starts with how babies need to be carried around while their parents work to keep them fed. And how all over the world parents keep their children close to them no matter what it takes or what they are doing. It shows how children are held differently all over the world in
Show More
Guatemala a child is kept close in cloth against its mother. And in Bali the children are carried in slings while their mothers balance baskets on their heads. This book continues all over the world with situations just like the ones listed.

Reaction: I like this book it shows the differences and the similarities all over the world no matter how young or old a child they are cared for and loved in the same manner. And the mothers continue on with normal lives.

Extensions:
Cultural lessons would be a must I think in elementary classes it would be to have moms come in and talk about their cultures.
Diversity in class would help with extension idea number one even a child in class who has a new brother or sister it could be shown how they are carried like in the book.
