A vibrant collection of modern poems that all celebrate famous poets. The poems address the style of these poets as well as their histories and influence. It includes biographies of each poet at the end of the book.

These poems by Kwame Alexander, Chris Colderley, and Marjory Wentworth are tributes to 20 of their favorite poets. Each poem attempts to duplicate the style (and topics) of the poet who influenced them. While it's a fun collection, I think I would have enjoyed the collection better if the poems

were paired with an offering by the poet whose style is being duplicated. Sections at the back of the book offer brief biographies of each poet and group the poets in a listing by the time period in which each wrote. The illustrations are colorful. Although the book it is picture book, it can be enjoyed by teens and adults.

Out of Wonder is a collection of poems written by Kwame Alexander, Chris Colderley, and Marjory Wentworth in a tribute to poets who have inspired them. The honored poets are a diverse group of women and men, ancient and contemporary, and of various ethnic backgrounds. The poets celebrated include

Robert Frost, e. e. cummings, Nikki Grimes, Langston Hughes, Emily Dickinson, Pablo Neruda, Mary Oliver, Sandra Cisneros, William Carlos Williams, Rumi, and Maya Angelou. At the end of the book are biographical sketches of each of the twenty poets. The joyously vivid illustrations by Ekua Holmes earned for her the Coretta Scott King illustrator award. Students may be inspired to seek out works by one or more of the celebrated poets, so teachers and school librarians will want to make sure that they have works on hand by each of the honorees.

illustrated by Ekua Holmes’s mixed-media visual art, this is an accessible and inspiring collection of verse. It won the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award in 2018.

Another picture book I'd use if I was still teaching English and poetry--really great poems written in the style of iconic poets throughout time. Would be cool to read these homage poems in conjunction with the original poets' work, then read poems by Alexander and his compatriots and have students

try their hand at homage poems. Inception poetry! But truly, I loved these poems--several of them gave me hope on a day I was feeling hopeless.
