Simple concept, huge laughs. Pyle has aliens re-enact/experience everyday human activities to expose the hilarious craziness of things we accept as perfectly normal.

Superb!

If you've never read Nathan W. Pyle's "Strange Planet" strip you should look it up online today.

If you've seen it you know what you'll be getting. This book is nicely bound, printed in colour and features some new and revised content.

Highly recommended.

A collection of Nathan W. Pyle's charming comics of aliens experiencing life on Earth. I find constant delight in how the alien's phrase their observations and highly recommend checking out his stuff if you haven't before.

Odd blue beings with a distinctive speech pattern live on a planet eerily similar to ours. Their observations of everyday life and customs highlight the humor and absurdity of our human existence.

If you've never encountered these beings, or if you've seen a few comics here and there, but would like

to see more, this book is an excellent c o m p e n d i u m (as the beings' creator might say). If you've a big fan (as I am), the book is fun to have, but there's not a huge amount of new content, and none of the new comics was an immediate favorite for me. The book is worth getting, just know that much of it is content that is already available online.

Strange Planet is a comic based around a simple concept, the retelling of everyday events on a strangle planet. Yet, despite being such a simple concept it's the execution that makes it hilarious. The wording combined with the little alien facial expressions when relaying ordinary events such as

when the parent alien is sitting at the dining table with the child alien and there is salad left on the dinner plates and the parent alien tells the child alien to 'ingest your leaves' the child replies 'I do not desire leaves' to which the parent replies 'put the leaves in your mouth' to which the child replies 'it is an unpleasant sensation'. The parent then states 'life will be full of unpleasant sensations, you need to experience a wide range so you can properly gauge which ones are worst' and ends with the child alien banging his head on the dining table. Vastly better with the illustrations, trust me.

I first saw this comic on Reddit, and I was hooked even before I understood the gimmick. I won't go into what that means if you don't know. Better to be surprised.

This ones a collection of cartoons featuring the grey aliens. The schtick is that the aliens are living typical American lives and talking about them with descriptive phrases instead of the typical words. For example, the Sun is referred to as "the Star" and people are routinely called "beings".

The strips are amusing and the art is cute. I don't know why I like them so much--maybe it's a break from more cynical or sarcastic humor. Whatever the reason, it's on my shelf.

Wonderful dry humor.

I loved these comics, which show how absurd, when you stop to think about it, some of our practices and customs are. It does this mostly by giving things names which are perhaps more descriptive of their reality. Some examples: "tanning"= star damage; "sunglasses"= personal star dimmers;
"coffee"=jitter liquid; "cut flowers"=dying plants; "vase"=death cylinder for dying plants; "necktie"=seriousness cloth.
And so on. Lots of sorely needed chuckles here.

This is a fun look

at everyday life through the eyes of a family of aliens. I love the super-literal language the beings in this book use, from mouthstones for teeth to lifegiver for parent to two-wheeled foot pusher for bicycle. The humor is layered from basic to an underlying cynicism. There is also an undeniable kindness in these aliens. I have become addicted to them.

I loved this book. I love the idea of someone else trying to explain things that we do everyday. It really made me laugh out loud. I could read one aloud to a co-worker and he/she will totally know what I am talking about without even seeing the pictures. This really is a fun read.

This is definitely my kind of humor. I read it in the voices of the Coneheads on SNL.

My introduction to the Strange Planet comics and I loved it! Interpreting the formal alien dialogue was half the fun: "Imagine pleasant nonsense" for "sweet dreams"; "may we initiate obscure and pursue" for "can we play hide and seek?"; "sustenance preserver" for "refrigerator; 'mouthpush" for

"kiss." Outrageous and hilarious!

Many of these little comics make me smile.

This is a short book of ironic humor. The author provides a common sense point of view of common experiences. The terminology and explanations provide insight into some of our illogical activities. Moderately humorous.

2023-12-05: Not much to be said. Funny cartoons that often cast an interesting light on human actions.

If you've seen the webcomics, you get the idea- but now in dead tree form!

I read this for the "A Comic Book" part of my 2020 reading challenge. I knew I loved his comics from what I had seen online, but having them all in one collection made them so much better. Some of these were familiar, but a bunch were new to me and all were really clever and funny. I'm really

excited he's doing a second collection.
