Library's review

I have come to believe that the only words that communicate something original from God's life to others are words that share what God has worked out in an individual life. We conquer vast schemes of deception by "the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony." Just as the Word became a

Person in history, so even now we have only those words to share which God has actually wrought ino our Christian experience. Other words may be true, may be beautifully put together, may be mentally stimulating, but they are lifeless.

The primary chapters in this book have been worked out by God in my own life. The response letters from Anne, which are fictional, are included as counterpoint; the purpose behind them is to clarify the letters born of experience. However, all in the Anne letters is also authentic in the sense that I have experienced persons who think and act as those represented in the fiction. There is a real Anne, who startled me into writing the book, but she resembles the finished character only in name. I have deliberately given Anne and Peter only parabolic depth so that they might represent any of us. -Judith M. Miles (November 22, 1974)
