Description
Dr. Tanya M. Coakley offers insight and practical solutions for the unique challenges faced by majority culture parents caring for minority cullture children. The course focuses on helping children appreciate and maintain their cultural identity, building children's confidence in dealing with prejudice and racism, and advocating on behalf of children. The ocurse also explores how a child's life expriences and the status of his culture influence the way he views and experiences the world. Dr. Coakley is a professor of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a specialist in helping transcultural foster, kinship, and adoptive families.
