This book you could use in numerous of ways in history with time lines, history, or historical events. Harriet Tubman is most well-known for her work on the underground railroad. Prior to and during the Civil War era, she was called "black Moses" because, like Moses, she led people out of slavery.

This biography about a slave from Maryland who helped many slaves become free through the underground railroad system. She was also a nurse and helped the Union Army. I would use this book because it is a biographical book that can help children learn about important people in history. It is a

longer chapter book, though it has pictures to help the story, I would use this with the older students.

I liked this book. I liked the text features and the story-like style of writing. The text features in this book included a map of states, flags, pictures, and a timeline at the end of the book. They were very helpful in assisting my understanding of the text. The time line was especially helpful

because it allowed me to look at Harriet Tubman’s life in a date by date way. I enjoyed the story-like writing a lot. Biographies are sometimes too factual and it makes them hard to read but this one told Harriet Tubman’s life like a story. “In two nights, a slave trader would be coming for Harriet and her brothers. Harriet faced a hard choice. If she stayed, she would be put on a chain gang.” I was able to really get into the story and read about her life. The big idea is to inform the reader about Harriet Tubman.

Who was Harriet Tubman? It's important to tell stories of men and women who help make a difference in the world. This book is a good read with wonderful pictures in a timeline frame which makes it helpful to understand the text. Biography sometimes are hard to read but when it is written in a story

like writing it makes it more enjoyable to read. Harriet was a slave from Maryland who helped many slaves become free through the underground railroad. This book it use for older students who are understanding basic history.

This is a biography that shares the life of Harriet Tubman and how she was able to help so many black individuals escape slavery. Born a slave in Maryland, Harriet Tubman knew first-hand what it meant to be the property of a white man; she was whipped by owners and nearly killed by an overseer.

From other slaves, Harriet learned about the Underground Railroad. She traveled north to Philadelphia and returned as a conductor of the Railroad, helping hundreds of slaves escape to freedom as she did.

This book is full of amazing details and interesting personal information about her life that probably would not be found in a normal history textbook. The author uses such creative language and details that you find yourself lost in the story. Because this book is a biography I would use it as a supplement for a unit in a history class but the way it is written also makes it suitable for an English lesson as well.

This book is filled with details and interesting personal info about her life that probably won't be found in a normal history book. By the end of the book, I felt I had a stronger

sense of who Harriet was as a person. Great job. Fantastic book for a fantastic woman.

As far as the Who Was series goes, this book really knocked it out of the park -- by far one of the strongest titles I've encountered so far. Not only is the writing top notch, the pacing of Harriet's extensive and fascinating story is well thought out. It helps to have such a strong and

interesting subject, and I wish we as a culture didn't continue to let Harriet down so badly.
