An Alaskan adventure that tells of a short story of John Muir traveling along a glacier with the dog, Stickeen. The story has an unusual beginning as there is no true introduction of how or why John Muir is on a glacier, the adventure simply begins instantly with suspense until the end. This is an

exciting adventure that intrigues the reader to wonder if John and Stickeen are going to survive the harsh wilderness.

The illustrations of this book are enchanting as the illustrator captures the brutal Alaskan winter that allows the reader to be chilled from the pictures and feel the characters' struggles as they cross the glacier.

The story expresses bravery and companionship of Stickeen the dog, which I loved. I also enjoyed the suspense from the book and feel as though young readers would as well. I personally think this would be a great book for a read aloud with the adventure and suspense created by the author, and the students can explore the work of John Muir.
