Another fun Elephant and Piggie book with another dilemma to solve. This duo is entertaining and kids will love these! Good for beginning readers (and those of us adults who love this duo too!).

Exuberant Piggie once again tries to inspire reluctant Elephant, but this time with the not-so-mellifluous sounds of her belching instrument. Young readers will be rolling on the floor as they delight in Piggie’s unencumbered antics to “entertain” her friend and Elephant’s stalwart

determination not to hurt his best friend’s feelings. An easy read for first graders, children in preschool through fourth grade will be enthusiastically inclined to mimic the range of emotions Willems captures with his simple, yet dramatic drawings of the characters and their corresponding speech bubbles. A great story for read alouds, or for competent readers to start expressing feelings represented on the page as they read, only the brave soul- willing to be just a bit silly, will be able to accurately recreate the alarming sounds emanating from Piggie’s horn. Don’t forget to look for Willems’ infamous pigeon in the endpapers of the book; he’s always lurking around…somewhere.

I love Elephant and Piggie! This book would be good for a lesson on manners, complimenting even when it's hard to find something to compliment.

I found this book to be very cute and funny. I liked how speech bubbles were used instead of traditional dialogue to engross the reader in the story. It would be fun to read aloud because of the crazy noises the trumpet makes. I think the message of this story is that one should not be afraid to

tell the truth, and it gets across in a funny way when piggie admits he wants to sound like elephant. I'd recommend this to kids up until 2nd grade.

Another great Elephant and Pig book that teaches young readers about true friendship and accepting differences.

And next will Piggie teach Gerald how oink and snort?

Review from library copy.

Dear Mo Willems - if you didn't already have a Trixie and a Trixie's mommy, I'd be your Trixie mommy.

Listen to my Trumpet! by Mo Willems is the seventeenth Elephant and Piggie book. Once again Piggie proves herself to be a wacky, wonderful and irreplaceable best friend.

Piggie has gotten a trumpet. She wants to show it to Gerald. She makes all sorts of horrendous, non-musical sounds come out of it.

Gerald, friend that he is, listens politely. But his facial expressions show he's as puzzled by all this as the rest of us.

But Piggie has her reasons. All is soon explained. Meanwhile, though, readers and listeners can have fun mimicking Piggie's trumpet playing.

A terrific early reader: the sight words are not going to be much use, since half the book consists of onomatopoeic words, but it's great practice in phoneme reading. Although, your kid may end up having a hard time reading through the book as he will be laughing so hard ...

It is a really funny

story too, definitely one of the funnier ones in the series!

The moral of this story is that music to ones ears is not always music. It is important to be honest with your friends, because the longer you wait, the more likely you will be to miss the point entirely.

Yes, five stars - they resonate with me, make me think and laugh, and are a hit with everyone I share them with.

I love the fonts & the design of the dialogue balloons. Gasped AWW" out loud when I discovered the *reason* Piggie is playing the trumpet."

So we had a Gerald and Piggy lost weekend and I really liked this one because the noises a trumpet makes when you're learning are RIDICULOUS and well suited to the kids' book agenda.
