illustration that took up two pages with contrasting words. For example, on the first page it said “WOOD LAND” which was depicted by a forest, which led into the “FARM LAND” on the next page. The author does not make mention of anything throughout the book as the illustrations demonstrate different opposite qualities found in the land, except for at the end of the book when it states, “Our Land, America, the Beautiful!” This is symbolic of the people that make up the land and how no matter how different they are, they are all entitled to be proud citizens. This could be used for younger students to learn the differences between big and small, straight and round, etc. or it could be used for older students to decipher the deeper meaning behind the text and illustrations. There is also a reference page at the end of the book with each of the illustrators explanations of why they chose to depict the words the way they did which could be great for further exploration of the topic. The main message of the story was to contrast the different qualities that make up the land of America.
