Description

Most people feel disturbed by the political and social problems we see every day yet, at the same time, feel helpless to solve them. We feel even more disturbed as we and others give up our personal power in futile attempts to solve these problems. We have given our power away to politicians and others who accomplish little or nothing as they serve their own narrow interests. People have become apathetic because the world situation is just too overwhelming. This book will help you to view the world situation in a way that is not overwhelming. It provides ways for you to take back your power for personal growth and social change.

Changing Ourselves, Changing the World
by Gary Reiss, LCSW

I found this amazing book to be very deep and intensely informative at the same time. The author's use of small town analogy's and antidotes helped me to understand the basis of a technique called processing. Helping others to deal with the

situation from where they are and not some psycho babble of where a person should be.

Though this how-to seems to come in from a therapeutic training kind of place, as the exercises and the different levels deepened I could see the relevance in not reacting, in helping myself and others to deal with the demands of living in a chaotic and often volatile society with a billion pressures coming from as many different directions. The book is very intellectual and for me slow reading, but I found that as I read a chunk and then digested it and went back for more that it all made sense and the experience left me feeling very empowered. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes enlightened psychologically based ways to making a difference.
