A story from when the author was about ten years old in a rented summer house is blended with facts about bats. The information is placed well and doesn't interrupt the flow of reading.

In the story, the girl is afraid of bats based on common misinformation. Over the summer, with her mom's help, she learns about the bats living in the house. Her brother is slower to accept them but realizes at the end that bats need human help to survive around us.

The illustrations are expressive and helpful. I especially liked the kid in a bat costume showing the similiarity of our structures. Also, the symbolic last page is heartwrenching.
