This is a very simple beginner reader book about a boy, Henry, and his dog, Mudge, as they go on a family vacation to the west. The book describes what they do on the trip and what they see. It explores the geography of the "wild west" of the U.S. and what makes it different from the other regions

of the country.
The story was very simple but good for children who are learning to read. It shows familiar objects and make it easy for the child to learn and relate to. I like the way it is separated into thee chapters. The illustrations are detailed and fun to look at but a little dated. You can definitely tell that this book came out in the 80s but I think children will still enjoy this book.

Usually I love this series, but this is an exception.
