A charming book about three friends camping out alone, then they scared by two "ghosts" which are actually their sisters. An easy read and a good "boy" book. I would use this book to hook a reluctant reader to read more books, to hook boys to read, and to humor girls. It also sidelines hard work

This is a cute book, and I know some children who would enjoy reading it. As a Step 2 book in the Random House "Step into Reading" series, is contains simple sentences, lots of common sight-words, and a very basic plot. The pictures are cartoon style, with bright colors. I am not a big fan of the

messages this little story is sending. For one, the boys tell the girls that camping is not for girls. PJ Funnybunny's sister and her friend play a trick on the boys in the end, but there is nothing in the story that says girls CAN camp. Also, PJ has a friend named Potts who is a pig. In the story, Potts is responsible for packing the food, and he eats it all before they get to the campsite. I think it perpetuates a harmful stereotype to imply that overweight kids can't be trusted with the food. Overall, a cute, simple story, but not one I would teach in my classroom.
