Honestly, I'm sure you all remember how much I missed Percy, so I won't go into details - but I missed him. A lot. But in The Son of Neptune, we get him back. And really... it was kind of strange.

Imagine knowing every detail of the characters
Show More
background - while they don't know anything. You know every move that they make, and why they feel strange about certain things - always. And they don't - it's just very... trippy, I guess. When I said I missed Percy, I meant the one who remembered everything - and while it was great to have him back, even sans memories... I still missed him. He was there but he wasn't, you know?

And on top of that... Camp Jupiter is a totally different world than Camp Half-Blood. You can see the similarities, but Camp Jupiter is much more war driven (versus fun), and there was actually a city type set up. Once you're of age, you can stay. Interesting, but I think I'd still take Camp Half-Blood - they're a lot more chill about everything.

I liked Frank and Hazel. They both had very complicated histories, but they both show exciting promise. They're braver than anyone. I'm positive! I loved the sweet romance between the two, and I think that they're perfect together. Both of them are adorable in an underdog way, but especially Frank. He's just a big huggable bear! (hee hee)

Everything that happened in this book was interesting, but I'm just not completely sure at where I stand on this series. It feels like something very big is going to happen, and I don't know what. Which is killing me. All in all, The Son of Neptune is a good book. I'll definitely give it that.

This was an amazing book and I really liked it. The book really caught my intrest but was also hard to follow at parts. The book is about the well known Percy Jackson who arives at Camp Jupiter and goes on a quest with Hazel (who should be dead) and Frank (who has this ancient power to turn into
Show More
any living thing). They go off on a quest to restore the golden eagle (the camp's symbol of power) in Alaska were the Gods have no power. But the dead line is the Feast of Fortuna (June 24) which is only 4 days. They travel to Seattle and find the Amazons, got captured, and broke out with the fastest horse on the planet. They then go to Alaska, get the golden eagle, defeat the giant, Polybotes, free Thantanos (Death), and got back to camp where the battle to live has begun. They win, and Percy tells the Romans to let the armed Argo II (flying ship) land and work with the Greeks to stop Gaea.
What I thought was a good cliff hanger was how Annabeth was on the ship ( I'm still wondering how they're going to meet) and the fact that Leo Valdez (Lost Hero) looks exactly like Hazel's old boyfriend, Sammy Valdez, I think Sammy might be Leo's grandfather. Wouldn't that be so wierd? Anyway, I think if Rick Riordan had made it easier to follow it would have got a 5-star review. Well from me anywho.

Rick Riordan does it again! I could not stop reading! The fast paced, action packed story kept me hooked the whole time I had it in my hands.

He goes deeper into the mythology, expands on Percy and his character, and introduces new and mysterious characters that just made me want to know more, so I
Show More
kept on reading.

While having a great story, he sticks to the original myths, so that we can understand them in a new fresh way. These books continue to be a great help in the classroom!

Bravo to Riordan once again!

OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been waiting for this book for a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I finally have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I started reading the Percy Jackson series after the movie came out and I'm so glad I did! The series is AWESOME and AMAZINGLY detailed. I can visualize what is
Show More
happening in every page. In 2010, I read the Lost Hero and IMMEDIATELY fell in love with it! There was a HUGE cliffhanger at the end of the book and it made me wonder "What is happening to Percy?" Now that question is answered in the Son Of Neptune! I couldn't believe that Percy couldn't remember who he was! I also loved the humor in it!

Example : Frank-"Um,is that horse tame?"
Horse - whines angrily
Percy-"I don't think so. He just said 'I will trample you to death, silly Chinese Canadian baby man.'"

See what I mean!?

Anyway, I recommend this book to anyone who loves the Percy Jackson series!

The book “The Son of Neptune” is the second book in a series which successes the Percy Jackson series. The series that “The Son of Neptune” is in is the “Heroes of Olympus” series both series are written by Rick Riordan. The plot of this story is pretty cool in the previous series the
Show More
main character Percy Jackson is a teenager from Manhattan who we meet in the very beginning of the book, he is being chased by evil demons from Rome’s history. As Percy escapes he finds an unusual camp with armor clad teens patrolling the grounds. It turns out that these teens are half human and half god. Riordan puts another twist on the book with Percy not being able remember any of his past before being chased by the demons.

In my opinion this book was amazing just as all Riordan’s books are. This plot like I said is pretty cool because almost the entire book Percy is trying to regain his memory. Percy is a character from the previous series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” so I was pretty happy when Riordan came out with this series and kept Percy as a character. Percy is an average teenager with sarcastic comments which can be pretty funny at times. I think that Rick Riordan does an extraordinary job combining mythical beings and today’s society, he combines it so well you really start to think that there is a hidden world that we can’t even begin to start to comprehend. Before even starting to read this series read the previous series from the first book to the last than start this series, by doing this you really start to get the full picture that Riordan paints with these stories and you start to understand all of the characters personalities. My rating of this book would have to be a four and one half just because of the blending he does with mythical creatures a great read you just have to read the previous series otherwise you will start reading and have no idea what you are actually reading.

English-Period 8 Critical Review

New York Times #1 Best-Selling author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, The Kane

Chronicles, and the Heroes of Olympus series, Rick Riordan, recently came out with the newest installment of

the Heroes of Olympus series. This riveting
Show More
novel titled, The Son of Neptune, was released on October 4th,

2011. Riordan taught middle school English and history for 15 years before becoming a full time writer. He

now lives in San Antonio, Texas with his wife and two sons.

In The Son of Neptune, Riordan writes in the perspective of Hazel Levesque, the cursed daughter of Pluto;

Frank Zhang, a very powerful unclaimed demigod descended from many great heroes; and the lost hero

himself, Percy Jackson. Percy was the main character of the original Rick Riordan series, Percy Jackson and

the Olympians. Percy has no memory of Camp Half-Blood or anything from his past except his girlfriend

Annabeth, thanks to the Roman goddess Juno, who sends him to Camp Jupiter for Roman demigods.

Together, Percy, Hazel, and Frank go on a quest to Alaska to free Thanatos, Death, from where he is chained

by the eldest of the giants born to the evil Earth goddess Gaea, Alcyoneus.

This newest Rick Riordan novel is a phenomenal installment to the Heroes of Olympus series. I would

recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and anyone interested in

Greek mythology. I give this book a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. I cannot wait to see what Riordan does with The

Mark of Athena, the third book of the series that will be released next fall.

This book continue the Heros of Olympus sereis. This new book is told from three other points of view; from Percy's, from Hazel's view and from Frank's view. Percy was sent ,by the wolf Lupa, on a long journy. He does not know were he is going, but monsters attack him constantly along the journey.
Percy (like Jason in book 1) has no memory of who he is. By the time he is at the end of his long journey, he comes apon a camp for people who are demigods (one of the parents was a god) or people related to demigods. In the camp, there is constant talk about Roman gods, Percy always gets a weird feeling when gods are mentioned, as if he is trying to remember something. Whenever someone talks about the name of a god, Percy always knows the Greek name for the god. Percy only knows the greek names because there is another camp for greek demigods. For some reason Percy is in a roman camp for demigods, with no memory of his life. Percy soon finds himself caught up in a quest to free Death (the god) in order to save the world from the evil god Gaea (the god of the earth or mother earth, what ever you prefer.) Gaea is only asleep for know, but her giant sons are trying to resurect her from her slumber.

This book was better than the first one for many reasons. First, it had Percy Jackson in it. The series basically revolves around him. Seconldy, you get to read about the roman camp, which is talked about in the first book. The last reason was that there was more humor and action in this book. In the book, you also get to read about the giants more. What I did not like was that every once in awhile Hazel (one of the main characters) has flashbacks about her old life in the 1800s. The flashbacks were very boring and hard to get through without falling asllep. Other than that, the book was amazing. I recomend this book for readers who like the percy jackson series, and like action/humor packed books.

Percy wakes up, not knowing anything but his own name and his encounter with wolves. Right now he in a fight for his life. Percy has a battle with two monsters who won't die. This battle leads him to a demi-god camp. He is helped by some Romans his age and manage to back off the monsters. Percy
Show More
meets two people, Frank and Hazel. Percy goes on an epic quest to prevent giants from taking over the world. Percy also thinks that this quest will help him recover his memory.

I really enjoyed this book. There is a very well amount of action, adventure, and many other things you can mention. I am really excited for the next book to come out in the fall.

The second book in the Heroes Of Olympus series. Percy Jackson, who has amnesia, is being chased by two Gorgons trying to avenge the killing of their sister, Medusa. Percy makes it to Camp Jupiter, a camp for Roman demigods (half-human and half-Roman God), whilst carrying a goddess in disguise
Show More
named Juno. Percy and some new friends must journey to Alaska on a quest whilst knowing that Camp Jupiter is about to come under attack and they must make it back in time to help. Luckily Percy regains his memory as they race back to Camp Jupiter.

In these books Riordan explores Roman mythology rather than the Greek mythology in the Percy Jackson series. This is a great read and a fantastic introduction to Greek and Roman mythology.

The Review:

Rick Riordan’s signature style is as strong as ever with this fast paced, humor and mythology packed, modern day continuation of the life of Percy Jackson, an Olympian demigod. It would stand to reason that most people who will read this book will have already read some of Riordan’s previous works, and are familiar with the characters and plot already. Even so, The Son of Neptune is written so that anyone can pick up the novel, and not be thoroughly confused. Riordan’s attention to fantastic detail and his acute execution of character development is real enough to make this book a truly enjoyable read.

The novel opens with Percy running from monsters. As usual, he is barely keeping ahead by the skin of his teeth and pure talent, only this time he has no memory of who he is. The first book of the series, The Lost Hero, follows Jason who also loses his memory, ends up in Camp Half-Blood and finds out that Percy has been missing as well. Percy and Jason had been kidnapped and switched by Hera to help unite the children of the two aspects of the Olympian gods, the Greeks and the Romans to fight Gaia, aka Mother Earth. Back-story aside, Percy finds the Roman equivalent of Camp Half-Blood and gets the ball rolling with the whole quest-of-much-importance that happens pretty often for Percy. This time it is to free Death from the clutches of Gaia and her army who want to defeat the Olympian gods and take over the world, but be back in time for the Feast of Fortuna.

The Son of Neptune introduces two new main characters to the cast of demigods, Hazel and Frank. Both have intriguing pasts that we find out over the course of the book, which is faster than other characters Riordan has wrote, such as Annabeth. Their relationship with each other and their new friend Percy grows closer over the short period of time as they escape almost certain death fairly often on their journey.

I do agree that Rick Riordan often writes the same deathly peril, quick thinking and plan, fight, then escape scenarios, but I still enjoyed the book. If you like Rick’s books, you will love this one. There are a lot of scenes and little details about the characters and plot, especially Hazel, whose past is now her present and only recently, came back to life.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next installment, The Mark of Athena. The ending leaves you waiting on the edge of your seat for the reunion of Percy with Camp Half-Blood and Jason with Camp Jupiter and the ensuing battle with Mother Earth.

Notable Scene:

Hazel led Percy to a black crypt built into the side of the hill. Standing in front was a teenage boy in black jeans and an aviator jacket.

“Hey” Hazel called. “I’ve brought a friend.”

The boy turned. Percy had another one of those weird flashes: like this was somebody he should know. The kid was almost as pale as Octavian, but with dark eyes and messy black hair. He didn’t look anything like Hazel. He wore a silver skull ring, a chain for a belt, and a black T-shirt with skull designs. At his side hung a pure-black sword.

For a microsecond when he saw Percy, the boy seemed shocked—panicked even, like he’d been caught in a searchlight.

“This is Percy Jackson,” Hazel said. “He’s a good guy. Percy, this is my brother, the son of Pluto.”

The boy regained his composure and held out his hand. “Pleased to meet you,” he said. “I’m Nico di Angelo.”

The Heroes of Olympus Series:

1. The Lost Hero

2. The Son of Neptune

3. The Mark of Athena

A little slow in the beginning but picks up quickly and has a great ending.

The title could be better, from the moment I saw the preiview of the title in the back of the Lost Hero, I knew that it was talking about Percy. Maybe it was meant to be that way, to make it exiting to know that the next book is about Percy, but I would rather have a more mysterious title that you
Show More
didn't know who it was talking about until you actually started reading the book. But I did really like the book, especially reading about a new place for half-bloods, the roman camp, and I think it really showed how the gods were similar but definitely not the same from Greek to Roman times.

For me, sequels are read with some slight trepidation, as it might not live up to the first book. However, Riordan always managed to make the next book just as amazing, if not even better, than the last one. And he did the same with "The Son of Neptune". He went above and beyond what I expected and
Show More
wowed me once again!

It was a bit disconcerting not being in Percy's head anymore but it was also amusing to see how other characters see Percy. Because of his circumstances, Percy was a lot less of a lovable dork as he was in the previous series but he still has his moments AND he kicks just as much butt. The other characters, on the other hand, seemed a bit...weaker. I just didn't care about what happened to Hazel or Frank as much as I cared about Leo and Piper. Even so, there is a large cast of new characters, as always, and they're all unique and stand out in their own way.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to read. You know a book is absolutely amazing when you find it difficult to describe in a few spoiler-free sentences :) With all the foreshadowing that goes on in this book, you'll finish the book and be impatiently tearing your hair out waiting for the next book before you know it!

The Son of Neptune is the first Riordan book I struggled to read. Were I not already a big fan this book probably would have landed on the shelf without ever having been finished. That said, KEEP READING the last quarter of the book finds the author hitting his usual stride and the story coming to
Show More
life. Made it well worth slogging through. Brace yourself though...this is not a stand alone book. You need to have read the Percy Jackson books as well as Book 1 of this series to make sense of the story...and it doesn't end it just pauses mid scene to await the next book. (My biggest pet peeve.)

As an Alaskan though I had to grit my teeth and roll my eyes at the inaccurate descriptions of the scenes set here in Alaska. Though I still have the giggles about blue giants playing with moose as if they were toys. That would explain a lot.

Over all I'm glad I read it and look forward to the next book if only so I know what happened at the end of THIS book.

I like the flow of the story where we read from the different points of Percy, Hazel and Frank. I've seen the movie Percy Jackson and the Ligtning Thief and after watching and enjoying the movie I bought the first book. As always I loved the book more so than the movie, and ended up getting the
Show More
entire box set.

Now I believe the The Heroes of Olympus is a spin-off series of the Percy Jackson series so I don't know much about it.

We follow Percy, son of Neptune, Frank son of Mars, and Hazel daughter of Pluto as they go on a quest to release Death from the clutches of evil Earth Goddess Gaea! If you don't know much about mythology then not to worry because Rick writes with extreme detail that is on par with J.K. Rowling herself.

I find myself giggling reading some of the witty banter that Percy projects. It's that good! If you're a Harry Potter fan be sure to check this series out. Mythology, mystery, adventure and romance all in one epic read!

In the book The Son of Neptune beloved character Percy Jackson wakes up in San Francisco with no memory of his past. He ends up in the Roman version of camp Half-Blood. Along with Hazel Levesque and Frank Zhang he sets off to Alaska to free death from chains. Along the way they go through past of
Show More
all three protagonists. Hazel, daughter of Pluto (Hades), helped resurrect Gaea and died but her “brother” brought her back to life. Frank, son of mars (Ares), has a family line that has so much power along the way Juno (Hera) had to make a piece of that if burn his life would start to deplete. Percy, son of Neptune (Poseidon), had been starting to remember his past and remet Tyson. Percy was fighting to save to camps, camp Half-Blood and camp Jupiter, which means he had to families to protect. He would do anything to protect anyone from either camp even risk his own life. You have to protect what is precious to you.
Percy just woke up and this old lady asked him to carry her to Camp Jupiter. She gave him a choice to carry her or go to the water he would be safe. He chose to carry her, it turned or to be the goddess Juno, she said there was a quest to go to Alaska and free Death from chains which was allowing people to come back from the dead. Someone had to step up and accept the quest. Frank Zhang did, he chose Hazel and Percy to join him. Percy knew no one there and he still took the quest and set out to save camp Jupiter because he knew it was important to his new friends Frank and Hazel. All three of them had to risk their lives and wellbeing to keep the quest alive.
The three of them had to find the Amazons, an ancient group of girls who don’t like guys. Their leader is the sister of the leader of camp Jupiter and they hope they will help in the fight against Gaea. Percy and Frank end up locked up and Hazel has a chance to leave without them or break out the fastest horse alive, fight the Amazons that have sided with Gaea, free the guys, and escape. She chose to fight and save them because she could never leave a friend behind.
When they make it to Alaska they have to find where they are keeping death chained up. They have no help from anyone; the gods have no “jurisdiction” in Alaska. When they find him they can’t break the icy chains death says that one of them has to put their lives on the line to break them. Immediately Frank knew what he had to do. He took out the piece of wood that if lit he life would start to deplete. He lit it and put the flames up to the chains. The chains melted one by one; when death was free all of the people who were supposed to be dead were dragged back to the underworld. Frank was weak and almost dead, the piece of wood was almost all charred the fire went out. He survived but just barely.
At the end of the story they all make it back against the odds. Percy says that kids from camp Half-Blood are coming, people say to shoot them down but Percy convinces them to let them land. When they land a kid named Leo pops out and tells Percy to hop in. he turns to Hazel and Frank and tells them he wants them to me his other family. In a week every one had become his family at camp Jupiter.

The further adventures of Percy Jackson in which he has lost his memory, complements of Juno/Hera. Percy travels to the Roman camp with its 'city' of New Rome and is sent on a new quest with new friends. Riordan explores myth from the Roman point of view in this YA novel. I enjoyed the book, but it

does end in a way meant to make one eager for the next installment.

As with the rest of Riordan's book, an amazing adventure filled with witty one liners, magic, action, and true loves and the gods. i recomend this and his other books very highly for those with a good sence of humor and a taste for adventure, for people who believe in friendship and courage. There
Show More
are only a few minor critiscisms i can offer: 1) how many times do the heroes have to stop and eat and go to sleep. this critiscim is actually a plus in some ways, because in addition to being the adventure novel it is, this is also a travel log. 2) the horse, after traveling at super sonic speeds from alaska to camp jupiter couldn't make it just a few more feet? c'mon! all that said, what a wonderful book :)

So far, I'm enjoying this sequel series much better than the original Percy Jackson series. Riordan has done better research and increased his complexity this time around. He is also making better use of minor members of Greek/Roman myth. The Son of Neptune had engrossing action, amusing humor, and
Show More
a creative plot. Though what Riordan's trying to say about Earth being the bad-guy, I haven't figured out yet. Is she pissed off at us for wasting her resources, or are we just showing her who's boss by domesticating her? Maybe I'm looking too deeply into the symbolism? ;)

I would give the book The Son of Neptune a 10 out of 10. I really enjoyed this book. It had a lot of adventure in it. Percy Jackson woke up from a deep sleep and could not remember where he came from or anything from his past. He was stalked by monsters and evil things. He finally found safety in a
Show More
Roman camp. Percy feels very wrong at the Roman camp. He can not figure out why because he lost his memory. Little does he know, he is Greek and he is part of a very big plan to save the mortal world. He made some new friends at the camp. Hazel, the son of Pluto, is the first one to become friends with him. She welcomes him to their camp. Little does Percy know, Hazel has a dark past and is hiding a really big secret. Another character he becomes friends with is a boy named Frank. Frank is an unclaimed child. He really wishes to be the son of Apollo because he is very good at archery. The Roman camp is missing thier eagle. The eagle is the camp's symbol of power. They lost it in Alaska a long time ago. In Alaska, the gods can't help their children. They have no power there and their children can not talk to them. So, Hazel, Frank, and Percy set out to find the eagle and save their camp. I would recomend this book to other people. It is very adventurous and has a lot of action. It is a very good book.

succeeding when Gaea mounts her final attack is to unite the long-divided Roman and Greek gods, demigods and other denizens of yore. The cast of characters gets more complicated and its harder to keep track, but Riordan still tells an exciting story that successfully blends ancient elements with modern culture. And I quite like Hazel and Frank, the two BF's here who are just starting to acknowledge their suppressed feelings. Always nice when young romance is successfully worked into a ripping action story.
