This was an interesting Cherokee folktale. The illustrations were very pretty but I don't picture myself reading this in the classroom to my students. I work with very young students and this folktale would go over their head. It would work well with older students grades 3-5.

Haley, Gail. (1996). Two bad boys. New York: Dutton Childrens Books.
This is the traditional Cherokee legend of First Hunter, Corn Mother and their two boys. Wild Boy is the mischieveous brother who talks his brother into playing endless tricks, causing great trouble for the family and the people.

This caused the people to forever have to hunt for their meat, plant their vegetables and work in the world.
The illustrations were done in a style which simulated parchment and the borders around each page were a Cherokee style of design.
I found the story to be dark and cautionary, with warnings to children about being naughty.
