My reaction to The Frog Princess was that it was a good story that had funny, sad, frustrating, and apathetic sections. The funny portion of the story was how the younger brother was to marry a frog to be his wife. The sad part of the story was how he was always sad or embarrassed that he was

married to the frog because he didn't think she was as good as his older brothers wives. It was frustrating to me that he threw away his wives frog skin because he was being selfish in wanting her to be beautiful all the time, even though she was able to out perform the other wives in all the tasks and impress the father. As a reader I felt apathetic for the youngest son because he had to deal with the wrath from his older brothers and their wives. Overall the story was entertaining and always had an interesting twist on each page.

The main point of this book is to never be ashamed and to be patience and have trust. The story is a classic tale of how you can not judge an individual by their appearance. The frog princess ends up being the most beautiful and wise princess but because of the youngest sons impatience he nearly looses the chance to be with her. The story models that good things are never forced but rather become over time. And that patient and trust are key to being happy. The youngest son trusted the animals of the forest and they brought him true happiness in the end.

Czar, a King, sends his three sons to marry. He orders them to draw their bows and shoot their arrows far into the sky. The first to find each Prince's bow will be his bride. Ivan's arrow falls into the middle of a swam where a [talking] frog finds his bow. The other Princes laugh at him and Ivan

is ashamed of his bride. The frog turns out to be Vasilisa the Wise who was cast as a frog by her father. At Czar's banquet, Vasilisa shows up as herself and everyone is amazed at her beauty. Ivan burns her frog skin just before the spell is broken so she has to go away and Ivan is left heart broken. He goes on a great journey to rescue her. In the end, it teaches children not to focus on beauty, or be ashamed because your date isn't the most perfect creature in the world. It's a great lesson to teach, but it wasn't the most obvious. The book doesn't directly come out and tell you the lesson, which I like. It gives you the chance to think about the journey. This is a very old book and you can tell by the illustrations, but all the same the pictures were very enchanting and I enjoyed the book.

I really liked this version of The Frog Princess. The illustrations were great and it was just a bit different than other versions I have heard. I would have liked it more if it would have seemed as though the prince loved his wife for who she was not what she did, but that seems to be something

that happens a lot in fairy tales. I would like to use this book in a future classroom.

I thought this book started out well, but it spiraled downward about halfway through. This is a retelling, and a very loose one at that (especially considering that the original is about a Frog Prince). As I said before, it started out fine, but then toward the end it got confusing. There were too

many complicated names and I thought the entire 2nd half of the book was rushed through. I think it could have taken more time and could have been simplified a bit to make it a much more effective and intriguing story
