This is a great comprehensive look at the life of Martin Luther King Jr. It is very informational and inspiring to have details such as those contained in the book written out. I knew very little about his upbringing and rise to fame and it was very informative for me.
It contains amazing

photographs that speak for themselves and show the importance of his presence in the movement. I found the pictures of rallys and protests the most inspiring to look at. The descriptions that are included with them are very good.
The book is written simply and well for children althugh the wording is confusing and poorly organized at times. I found myself re-reding several passages to understand who they were talking about but overall simple enough for young children.

A very detailed history of MLK and his life growing up to his positive influences around the world. We see how young Martin Luther influences the older MLK and all that he did for society, With the photos and excerpts from different speeches, a very moving experience is brought about in this book.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. life is remembered in the book M.L.K. The Journey of a King. It begins with his childhood and upbringing explaining how his parents encouraged him into ministry. He was a reluctant activist and in the beginning didn't want the role but found it hard to say no to a cause
Show More
he believed in (equal rights for black people in the U.S.). He devoted his life to the cause and inspired many people to join him. After Rosa Parks was found guilty of disorderly conduct, MLK addressed a crowd at the Holt Street Baptist Church as the new president of the MIA (Montgomery Improvement Association). The group decided to boycott buses. Soon after that MLK experienced his first personal threat towards his family from being an activist. He knew his position was dangerous. At one point he was quoted as saying 'Lord, I hope no one will have to die as a result of our struggle for freedom in Montgomery. Certainly I don't want to die. But if anyone has to die, let it be me.' He was also stabbed at a department store book signing. There is a picture in the book of him having a hand wound tended to with a letter opener sticking out of his chest. He led many rallies and people on a quest for equality and peace. One of his most famous speeches was held at the National Mall in Washington D.C. It is a scene I believe every American is familiar with. The prayer pilgrimage attracted thousands and helped pass groundbreaking legislation by getting black people to vote and be heard. Threats on his life became commonplace as he continued to march for equality. The KKK continued to oppose him. Although MLK was ultimately shot and killed by a white man, the legacy he left behind was to have all people created equal by allowing them to vote and be heard. It is amazing to read a story about the unfair treatment of blacks and realize how recent those events were. The text is presented for young people to understand, although there is a lot of information in this book that could be broken down and highlighted for educational purposes. There is also a summarized time line in the end. Many pictures accompany the text and compliment the material presented. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn about this American hero.

I would like to have this book in my classroom and use it often and make it available, not just during Black History Month, or learning about civil rights. I want to have this book out and in company of other books about amazing peaceful leaders.

This book sure did translate what an incredible American MLK was. This book is great for research. It will transform your heart and make you realize how lucky we are to be living into todays society where race isn't as much of an issue as it was in the 50's and 60's.

Photographs and illustrations were captivating in this book, they almost told a story all by themself. The reader is drawn in first by the pictures and then by the amazing and heroic tale of Martin Luther King. A great read or review for mid- to older elementary audience. Also, a must have for

This is the story of M.L.K It's everything you would expect from a book like this in regards to information, but it is directed at young adults. It's really great. Easy to read. Lots of pictures and a great layout.

This book would be a great secondary source not just for a youngster, but also an adult. I didn't let it's simple writing fool be, it has a great amount of information within it! The photography is great, although some pictures seem to be space fillers, and the writing is balanced. Very powerful

reading. Very thought provoking at times as well. Not very many authors can write a book that can be whole heartedly enjoyed by youngsters and adults, this book does. The great part is if you don't like all the writing and pictures, you can just go to the back of the book and run through a detailed timeline (that's actually a real timeline). Have to love options.

This book gave me a deeper insight into the life of M.L.K. It revealed his dreams, his struggles, and his accomplishments. I had read other books about him, but never had I experienced such emotions as I did with this one. The photography placed me in his footsteps and what I experienced is

complete admiration for him through a deeper understanding of who he was and what he fought for. It revealed the terrible segregation laws I had briefly heard of and the hatred that governed people. It also gave accounts of courageous men, women, and children that stood up for equality. I would highly recommend it!

The Journey of a King focuses on Martin L. Kings love for the community and his plans to make the world a better place. It's a great way to introduce history to children. The story itself about MLK is inspirational and hear warming however, seeing it with the pictures is amazing.
