Qwill and the cats investigate the death of their friend Iris Cobb. Story has a Halloween-y feel as they learn of ghostly appearances, spooky noises, and an old curse on the Goodwinter family. Short and easy to read in an evening or two.

I decided to try another book by Lilian Jackson Braun and I was pleasantly surprised. The Cat Who Talked to Ghosts was entertaining. Again you are introduced to Jim Qwilleran. He is just a local guy who writes for the local paper and has two Siamese cats, named Ko Ko and Yum Yum. Ko Ko and Yum Yum

seem seem to have an uncanny knack for sensing trouble and solving crimes.

Qwilleran receives a phone call from his old landlady, Mrs. Cobb. She is in a panic about noises she is hearing in the night. When he arrives at her place the house is dark. When he walks into the place he finds Mrs. Cobb's body in the kitchen. It is ruled a natural death due to a heart attack. Jim Qwilleran has mixed feelings about her death.

The story was interesting in the fact that there is no formal investigation just Jim Q doing the solving by asking questions and just being nosy. I think I may try reading The Cat Who ate Danish Modern again.

When Mrs. Cobb is found dead in the apartment she lives in at the historic Goodwinter farmhouse, Jim Qwilleran and his two housemates, Koko and Yum Yum move in until someone can be found to take Mrs. Cobb's place.

Qwill feels that Mrs. Cobb did not die a natural death or that she may have been

frightened to death! Maybe because he received a phone call from her asking him to come over as she was frightened by the strange noises she was hearing. When he arrived, he found her already dead.

Qwill is not the only one who thinks there is something strange going on. Koko has taken to pacing around on a particular carpet, or crawling under it and 'talking' to himself. Is there something under the floor?

And then there is the Vince Boswell, his wife Verona and their daughter Baby. Boswell is there to catalogue the numerous printing presses and machinery stored in the barn. And also the neighbour Kristie, who lives at the Fugtree farm.

In solving the murder, Qwill unearths some of Moose County's ancient history and scandals. Seems not everyone is what they seem to be.

Another in this fun series.

I love reading time spent with characters Jim Qwilleran with Siamese cats Koko and Yum Yum.

Mrs. Iris Cobb, Qwill's former housekeeper, calls him for help but by the time he arrives Mrs. Cobb has died of an apparent heart attack. Knowing the series, the reader can project that her death might not

have been due to her ill health. There's definitely many elements to investigate even with Moose County's gossip mill in high gear.

One of the funniest parts of this novel is reading about Qwill, Koko, and Yum Yum's reactions to his friend Polly's new kitten Bootsie.

I always try to put all the clues together to solve the mystery but so far I haven't matched wits correctly. I'll happily try again with the next novel in the series.

I was sorry to see that Braun killed off one of my favorite characters. Mrs Cobb was always entertaining. The books Koko knocked off the shelves to give clue to Qwill were To Kill a Mockingbird and One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. Both books where a person was murdered, smothered by a

pillow.
Good mystery, and as always interesting characters, the historical mystery was also closely connected to this books case.
