I have an obsession with Anne Boleyn. She is my favorite historical figure. She was a complex, vivacious woman who captivated Henry VIII and was instrumental in bringing about the protestant reformation ion England. For some reason if I see a book with her name in the title I think I have to buy it

and read it.

This one sat on my shelf for awhile and it seemed like a quick read on a day I was tired. While it was ok, it was not good. While I know that historical fiction takes liberties with accuracy, still, I think this book was filled with too many misrepresentations.

Not recommended.

Too much exposition and historical summary in lieu of character or plot development. A good choice for history buffs, ages 12-16 (more so for the younger end of this age range)

This book is about Princess Elizabeth's Mother Anne. When Anne first saw King Henry 8 she was in love. For her whole life she spent it tryting to get the Kingsd attetion. The good thing about this book is that you will feel like you are Anne and you are trying to get the Kings attention. The bad
Show More
thing about this book is that you wil never know what is caoming around the corner. If you like a book that you will never put down then this book is perfect.

Doomed Queen Anne is the basic story of Anne Boleyn for preteens and teenagers. This condensed version of history tells how she weaseled her way to the throne by marrying Henry VIII. Because it’s a young adult novel it’s very easy to read and very easy to understand.

Meyer was slightly off in
Show More
her historical accuracy and her portrayal of Anne’s sister, Mary, and Anne was not to the caliber of Philippa Gregory’s The Other Boleyn Girl. However, Doomed Queen Anne is a much better fit for young teens who want to know about Queen Anne without having to read boring textbook or graphic sex scenes.

I thought that is book is AWESOME!!! carolyn meyer did a very good job on describing anne boleyn's life. although i think that ms meyer did have some of the historical facts wrong. like mary boleyn is younger than anne.

I decided that I wanted to read all of the Young Royals books and began with this one. I believe that most people know the story of Anne Boleyn, and this gave a more in depth version of it. It takes an excellent writer to be able to weave fact and fiction together seamlessly, and Meyer does that.

She is able to give life to each historical event, including the final days before Anne's death. This definitely gives a different view of Anne Boleyn than other books, but I believe it is because it is written for young adults. Anne is portrayed more lovingly and slightly less ambitious and power hungry. Meyer doesn't ask the reader to like the character, but Anne is portrayed in a better light than movies and television shows. The most negative features that are shown are the jealousy and competitiveness that grows through the novel, however, in the end she is more human and caring once again. The best part of the story is that it is written as a first person point of view. It draws the reader into the character's world, instead of just stating what is going on. Although it is not completely accurate, it will get students interested enough to do more research on the subject.

Anne Boleyn’s sister becomes Henry VIII’s mistress, and Anne becomes jealous. She intends to make the King her husband. She courts the king and eventually gains his affections, but after she is unable to provide a male heir for the king, she falls out of favor with him, and is executed for

witchcraft.

I've always been fascinated by Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. This book was a great starting point to learn about the basics of their relationship and what happened to result in Anne's beheading.

As a novel of historical fiction, the book can be used to pique students’ interest in the historical figures of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. The novel could also be used to help students understand how life was conducted in the times of King Henry VIII.

Anne Boleyn's seduction of King Henry led to a highly ambitious, deliberate and ultimately doomed effort to become the next queen. Lots of implied sex: marital, premarital and on the side. King Henry sure got around and no one minded. Jacket copy would make good booktalk.
