Horse Diaries: Koda is a story narrated by Koda himself, a horse along the Oregon trail. Koda is close with a human counterpart, a young girl named Jasmine. Koda often separates from the pack and has mini-journeys along the way. The book includes some colorless pictures/sketches throughout. The
Show More
book is a bit dry but has a nice array of subplots. I would recommend this book particularly for those looking for a good book about horses. I am not a horse person and thus my review might be a little biased.

If you enjoyed Sox' first edition of Backyard Horse Tales, take a look at Koda.
Like Sox he tells his story from a horse's point of view, but his story begins in the spring of 1846 and covers the first two years of his life. Good stocking stuffer for eight to twelve age group of horse fanciers.

I absolutely loved this book! Koda is a quarter horse, and it follows him as he grows up and learns about all different sorts of things, including that cougars are bad and that the little girl Jasmine is good. Eventually Jasmine's family takes Koda and his mother along with them on their
Show More
journey through the Oregon Trail. It's really rough and lots of people and animals die, but it's going to be worth it once they get to Oregon. When Jasmine goes missing, Koda takes off to find her. He finds her weak and nearly helpless, but she manages to get onto his back (for the first time) and he carries her to safety. Then, finally, they are in Oregon and can start their new lives together.
