The latest addition to the Rainbow Fairies series, the Dance Fairies, kicks off with this title in which best friends Kirsty and Rachel must again rescue the fairies from the schemes of wicked Jack Frost who has stolen the dance fairies’ ribbons and disrupted dance around the world, including the

production of Swan Lake the best friends were scheduled to see. There is nothing particularly original about this latest title – which follows the predictable Rainbow Fairies formula – but young readers who enjoy the comfort of a formulaic series will likely find this title exactly what they want. Young readers with an interest in ballet may be particularly drawn to this title. The simple line-drawing illustrations are perhaps not the most detailed or engaging, but they do help to break up the text and add an occasional laugh. Dance Fairies continues with six additional titles, and librarians would be wise to invest in the complete series of these wildly popular books. Recommended for readers age 6 to 8.
