My first real First Edition - in America, anyway! This book was written last, but the stories are said to have happened "during any of the three visits of Mary Poppins to the Banks family." Travers apparently did not want to have another magical arrival. As she says, "This is a word of warning to

anybody who may be expecting they are in for a fourth visit. She cannot forever arrive and depart."

Michael is rescued from the Castle of the Cats, Jane creates a park in the park, a China Lion finds his long lost China Policeman, and the shadows from all sorts of characters find their way to the park for Hallowe'en, and to celebrate The Birthday - of Mary Poppins, of course.

Thoroughly enjoyable entry in the Mary Poppins series. Unlike the three books before it, this has only six chapters instead of 10, which allows the stories to be a little longer and more interesting. I also like that as the series goes along, the other characters get caught up in the magical

adventures too.

More adventures of Mary Poppins and the Banks children in the park.

This actually is not a separate visit from stern and charming Mary Poppins but adventures that happened in her prior visits. Still, most children will love a magical and extraordinary adventure in the park with Mary Poppins.

Some of the characters from the previous books reappear including , the

imperious Park Keeper, Fred Smith; Miss Lucinda Lark and her dogs, Mrs. Corry and her giant daughters, Egbert the Policeman, , and Bert the Match Man. Some new ones emerge, too: a trio of charming princes, Mr. Mo and his tiny park and family, a cat star. Some of the adventures are delightful while some are simply enjoyable enough.

Mary Poppins, you see, never, ever explains. But, she always entertains.
