Wonderful series for fantasy lovers. Not only did my son, 11, like this series, so did I. I can't wait to read the rest. Good values are presented - honesty, loyalty, etc.

The third in the series-- another gripping adventure with enough twists and turns to keep even unenthusiastic readers hooked. This is geared for upper elementary, but I've got high school students tearing through these since they've discovered them. A wonderful recommendation for reluctant readers.

This title in the series feels like the "Empire Strikes Back" for me - meaning horrible things happen to all of my favorite characters and I can only hope that resolution will come for them in the next book.

Another great book in the Ranger's Apprentice series. I just really like the characters in this book and the witty dialog. It helps that the story is also interesting and fast moving. This is definitely one of the good young adult books.

Four children are selected for a dangerous mission after they each pass a series of difficult tests using their unique talents. Together using problem solving skills, acrobatics, stubbornness, super intelligence, and a bucket, they must stop the evil Mr. Curtain from taking over the world. Will

Another exciting installment in the Rangers Apprentice series.

This is my favorite series in a long time and book 3 does not disappoint it was perhaps a little bit more boring than the previous books but still a nice and enjoyable read with edge of your seat suspense and still a few engaging action scenes dotted through out, I recommend this book just as much

as the others.

Will and Evanlyn must navigate through dangerous territory in Skandia, even as Halt and Horace rush to their rescue.

This was yet another excellent entry in the Ranger's Apprentice series. I'm very glad I decided to give these books a try. It's always nice to find children's lit of this calibre.

This
Show More
book marks something of a departure for the series. It's very much a placeholder volume; a lot of important things happen, but nothing is really resolved. Some readers might find this a bit underwhelming after the first two volumes, but I really enjoyed it. The characters continue to move forward in some surprising ways, and the story heads in a very different - and considerably darker - direction as a result. The first book led me to assume that the series would utilize your standard young-heroes-defeat-dark-lord plot. This volume proves that Flanagan is willing to do so much more with this story. I can't wait to see where it all leads.

I highly recommend this series, both to children and to adults with an interest in children's fantasy. It's got it all: action, excitement, surprising twists and turns and, most importantly, characters you can care about. And make sure you've got at least The Battle For Skandia, (Oakleaf Bearers in Australia in the UK), on hand; you'll want to dive right in as soon as you've finished this one.

This is a great book about a Rangers Apprentice named Will and a Princess named Evanlyn. They were captured by a group of Skandians, big Norse-like people, who have them doing manual labor ,in there hometown,Skandia, to keep it in order. whole Evanlyn is a house maid Will is somewhat of a farmer.

He soon realizes that Skandia is a very cold place. there is a bad drug that people give out there called Warmweed. by the title you can already tell what it does but what you dont know is that if you take it it becomes nearly impossible to become un-addicted. One of the Skandians, Jarl Erak, has become soft for the boy ans girl and he is trying to help them escape. Meanwhile Wills best friend Horace, a knight in training, and his Ranger teacher, Halt, are on there way to find Will and Evanlyn. After a couple of months of traveling, Horace and Halt ran into a couple of unexpected guests, other knights. Horace is able to take on all of them, or so he thought. The war lord in that part of the world has come to hear of Horaces skills and wants to chalenge him but unfortunatly haraces last battle had injured him. As both of the groups are in trouble, none of them know what to do. Will and Evanlyn are stuck in Skandia, and Horace and Halt have to deal with the war lord. I think that this is a great book

Will is capatured and taken to Skandia home of the Sea Wolves. With freezing temperatures, Will and Alyss must survive as slaves. Will is sent to work in the yard, the worst work place in Skandia. Halt is banished by the king so he can go rescue them. He is accompanied by Knight Horace of Araluen.

Halt and Horace venture through Gallica to save them. They are faced with many lancers, not very good ones, but he's better than most of them. To survive, Will has to eat warmweed, a drug that that keeps you warm but also damages your brain.

The Ranger's Apprentice series is one of my top five favourites, and book one, The Ruins of Gorlan, is one of my most favourite books ever. This is book three in the series, and, while I enjoyed it, I was left wanting more. There are some great sections, but I don't want to spoil anything for

you.
Evelyn and Will are captives of the Skandian lord Erak and are on a boat bound for Skandia. Meanwhile, Halt is frustrated because his king won't release him so he can go and rescue Will. Both Will and Halt are determined to find a way to escape their chains, and they do. The majority of the book, which is told in alternating chapters, is the journeys of both Will and Evelyn, and Halt and Horace. I'm looking forward to Book Four: the Battle for Skandia.

Another exciting book with adventure, some new and interesting characters, and an ending that makes you want more. (Good thing I have the next book in my hands right now.)

The third book in the Ranger's Apprentice series, I'm am totally loving these books, picks up where The Burning Bridge left off. Will and Evelyn are taken captive by the warriors of Skandia and are forced to be slaves. Because Will is a willful (no pun intended) slave, the slavers addict him to a

powerful drug that not only make him very pliable but will ultimately kill him. It's up to Evelyn orchestrate their escape, and help the completely useless Will to recover from the drug - if at all possible, while trying to survive in the barely hospitable wilderness of Skandia through the winter.

I would recommend to middle school and higher, and those adults who love YA novels - yes, that would be me!

This is the third book in the Ranger's Apprentice series; there are twelve books planned in this series with the tenth book, The Emperor of Nihon-Jam, released in April of 2011. This was a good book in the series and continues the story line that was started in book 2, The Burning Bridge.

Will and

Evelyn have been kidnapped by the Skandians and are at sea on the way back to the Skandians' homeland. Will they survive their kidnapping and be safely returned home? Halt is determined to go find Will, but is needed elsewhere in the kingdom. Halt will try to force the King's hand and ensure that he is able to go after Will. Will Halt and Horace be able to save Will and Evelyn?

I liked this book somewhat better than the first and second books in the series. Much of the story is spent with Will and Evelyn and they are both great characters and really grow throughout this book. These poor two characters face many trials and tribulations as they are forced to serve as slaves to the Skandians. The remainder of the story is told from Halt and Horace's point of view; Halt still has his biting sense of humor and Horace is much more likable than in previous books.

The plot is fairly predictable, there isn't anything here that hasn't been done before. The story is well written and engaging. There is a lot of humor throughout which makes that story fun to read. This book ends on another cliffhanger, so you may want to buy Book 4, The Battle for Skandia, ahead of time.

Overall this was a solid addition to the series. The story is engaging and the characters likable. The plot is well done, but predictable and nothing new. The humor throughout sets this apart from other middle grade fantasy and makes this book a fun read. This book does end on another horrible cliffhanger so be ready for that. I am looking forward to how things pan out in The Battle for Skandia. If you like this series I would recommend The Emerald Atlas by John Stephens and A World Without Heroes by Brandon Mull.

Two threads of a story, Will and Evanlyn, kidnapped by Skandians and Halt and Horace travelling to find them. Halt takes drastic action to release himself from his obligations as Ranger and finds himself exiled for a year.

Will and Evanlyn have to deal with being slaves and escape.

It's fun and

interesting and I really want to know what happens next!

*Spoiler warning*

When we last left Will in The Burning Bridge, he had been captured by Skandians, and Halt had promised to come after him. In the aftermath of the battle, Halt and the other Rangers have been chasing after Morgorath's second-in-command, much to Halt's chagrin. Meanwhile, Will and
Show More
Evanlyn (really Cassandra, the daughter of the king) are on their way back to Skandia as slaves.

So far the series has been a mixed bag for me. The stories are fast-paced and generally exciting. They're excellent when I need a quick, mindless read. Unfortunately, the descriptions of places and characters have all the subtlety of a two-by-four, and I had huge issues with the plot of this book. *here's where the spoilers start* Will is a mindless druggie for nearly half the book. I grant you I don't know a ton about addictive substances, but we see him have have one try of "warmweed" and the next thing we know he's completely addicted. I couldn't quite buy that someone as smart as Will wouldn't have figured out that he'd been tricked into taking a narcotic and steer clear. I give you that the drug in this world could have been particularly strong; apparently, it was since when Will is being weened off the drug, he is still in a daze two weeks after his last fix. Really? Finally, there just wasn't the same sense of urgency in reading this book, because the plot has no definite beginning or end, but is clearly in the middle of a series.

The book jumps right in the where the last one in the series left, and it never loses momentum. It continues with the non-stop action and suspenseful scenes, leaving readers wondering from page to page what actually is going to happen next due to the main characters facing danger at every turn.

Therefore, thanks to this book's fast-paced plot, believable fantasy world, and complex characters, I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting an exciting read.

Good fun - the writing in the series is unexceptional (either for good or for bad), but they are good-humored and keep your interest well enough (given that they are really kids' books). I listened to this one in the car with Jack.

I think this one was quite a bit better than the first two -
Show More
probably because it left behind a lot of the hokey monster stuff and focused more on humans in it's thinly disguised medieval Europe.

The 3 book Icebound land in the rangers apprentice series is a action pack book. After Will and Evanlyn are capture and are going to be sold as slaves things get rough. Halt make a promises to Will that he will find and rescue them. However the Barron refuse to let him go on his hunt

for his young apprentice. Halt does the unthinkable he perilously get banished form the castle to go save Will. While Halt is on his way to fin them a former apprentice ranger want to going him will quickly refuse and continues on. However then Horace a friend of Wills in training to become a night tries to join him. Halt also says no and tells him to carry on. However Horace didn't take now for an answer witch in the end was a good thing for Halt. Through out the book it switches between the four characters. This does become annoying however who ever your are reading about always is in the mists of a action packed problem.

Another solid addition to the series. Halt is rounded out and there is a (somewhat brief) starring role for Alyssa. The action is far-flung and more countries are brought into the Apprentices' world. There are some twists that you may see coming, but not from TOO far away. All in all, another

entertaining tale.

I am thoroughly enjoying The Ranger's Apprentice Series. I just finished The Icebound Land. Although I agree with Tara that this is not one of the stronger books in this series, I find I just can't wait to listen to these books. This series combines adventure, fast-moving plots and characters that

you really grow to enjoy. The narration is stellar making it an easy book to recommend. If you love the Pendragon series or Christopher Paolini's Inheritance trilogy ( 1), then you'll enjoy these books.
