An enchanting, farm-fresh debut graphic novel starring an unusual heroine who is braver than she realizes, for middle grade readers looking for a cozy, adventuresome read in the vein of Witch Boy or Be Prepared. Garlic feels as though she's always doing something wrong. At least with her friend Carrot by her side and the kindly Witch Agnes encouraging her, Garlic is happy to just tend her garden, where it's nice and safe. But when her village of vegetable folk learns that a bloodthirsty vampire has moved into the nearby castle, they all agree that, in spite of her fear and self-doubt, Garlic is the obvious choice to confront him. children's graphic fiction (2nd-5th grade?)

light story about anthropomorphic vegetables (enchanted by a friendly witch) and their encounter with an unknown vampire (who turns out to be friendly). Garlic is a well-meaning, anxiety-ridden young sprout who doesn't look forward to her adventure, but

she finds that there is a lot to be gained from exploring outside of her bubble.

Should appeal to kids looking for more graphic adventure stories (though not of much interest to anyone else).

Just in case you thought a brave little toaster was the least likely protagonist for a story, here's a cute little yarn with an anxious little bulb of garlic ready to win your heart.

Animated by a witch along with other fruits and vegetables to help in her garden, Garlic is forced to face her fears

when it seems a vampire has moved in next door and everyone decides she's the best candidate to confront him since she probably wouldn't be hurt by a garlic-avoiding bloodsucker.

As in real life, her bigger problem may be coming to terms with the existence of celery. Ugh.

Garlic is just one of many vegetable that were given sentient life to help the witch run her garden. All of them are a bit anxious, and Garlic is constantly running late. She has a tendency to bump Celery or their table, and while it is an accident it does not endear Garlic to Celery. One day while

in the garden the veggies see smoke coming from the castle in the distance, and they all worry that vampires have come to their town and will destroy everyone. Celery pushes for Garlic to be the one to confront the vampire. After all, she would be the “safest”. Unlike Celery, Garlic is willing to take on the challenge. They are scared, and worried, but they will do anything to make sure everyone else stays safe. I absolutely loved this book. It was so much fun. It has the perfect lessons about judging people by their appearance, or by the history of their ancestors. Great read and great illustrations. I want more please.

This is a charming, adorable little tale about friendship, overcoming self-doubt (and other's doubt in you) and fear, and unlikely heroes. Not to mention, there's a bunch of sentient, anthropomorphic veggies! I would love to see this as a larger series!

Garlic and the Vampire is a short graphic novel following a cast of animated vegetables, specifically Garlic, as they help Witch Agnes garden. They discover that the castle has a new inhabitant, and Garlic is elected to face the newcomer.

It is such a cute little book! The art style is sweet, and

the story is really cute. I really liked the idea it presented of not relying on stereotypes, and allowing people to show you who they are instead. It also shows readers that it is okay to do scary things, and it is okay to do them scared.

It is such a cozy read, and I 10/10 would recommend!
