Rose and Lissa have finally integrated themselves back into the life and classes of St. Vladmir's Academy. When Rose is taken away for her Qualifier exam what her and her mentor, Dimitri, discover is horrifying in method and implication. Thrown into a tizzy the Moroi society tries to deal with a
Show More
new, deadlier threat. Rose knows that when dealing with Strigori the odds are stacked against her but that doesn't stop her from wanting to do anything she can to eradicate the threat against all those that she holds dear.

When I was about three-quarters of the way through the book it struck me that although not a lot of action had occurred, I hadn't missed it at all because I was enjoying the story that much. There were a lot of degrees of relationships in this story and as Rose had to deal with each, it was easy to sympathize with her. I guess that's why when she started making mistakes left and right it was simple enough to forgive her. I enjoy the fact that she is a flawed character. I've often seen this series compared to "The House of Night" books and I have to say I really enjoy this one much more. This book was a very quick, easy and interesting read and I'm very much looking forward to the next book.

“Things die, but they don’t always stay dead. Believe me, I know.”

So begins Frostbite, the second book in Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series. Rose Hathaway has got more problems than your average teenager. First of all, her unusual bond with Lissa Dragomir causes Rose to get repeatedly
Show More
stuck in her best friend’s head. She’s in love with her tutor, Dimitri (which is a big no-no), and her good friend Mason has a huge crush on her. Not to mention, it looks like Dimitri’s got his eye on someone else…

Then a group of Strigoi attack a Moroi home, leaving many casualties in their wake and putting the Academy on guard. More Dhampir Guardians arrive, including the reknowned Janine Hathaway, Rose’s mother, whom she isn’t on the greatest of terms with.

But all hell breaks loose when, after discovering the location of a Strigoi hideout, three students (including her friend Mason) go after them, vigilante style. Rose has to join forces with Christian Ozera (Lissa’s cocky and sarcastic boyfriend) in order to rescue them. But things don’t go as planned, and it looks like Rose and Christian may be in need of rescuing themselves…

Mead has a knack for adding just the right touch of realism to a story steeped in fantasy, allowing the reader to sympathize with the characters. She also goes against the grain in teen fiction, and not everything ends in an all-too-convenient happily-ever-after. This book will please readers who are looking for yet another fantasy romance, but also those who are characters who are developed beyond the surface.

While a good chunk of Vampire Academy was spent providing background, Mead’s follow-up novel is faster-paced, with more action, suspense, and character development, making Frostbite a more compelling read than the first.

Ohh, ohhh, ohhh, I'm officially hooked! This was so much better than the first book. The first book was still actually good despite my nitpicking, but this surpassed it by far!

Rose is growing on me a lot more and ahhhhhh! I laughed, I felt frustrated, I cried. I even had to blow my nose! I can
Show More
actually identify a little more with Rose, especially with the boy problems. Those are not easy to go through and pitied her. And at the end of the book I actually felt a swell of pride for her while blowing my nose. I also really was affected by and felt the anger she had towards her Mother. I was literally fuming during a few scenes!

I adore Christian for some reason. Honestly, I think he might be my favourite male character. Though I really like the addition of Adrian. He's cocky as a peacock, but I kind of like that about him. It gives him character obviously and I'm loving his storyline! And Mason. Such a sweetheart.

Frostbite is the second book in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. As you might have guessed in the previous post, where I reviewed Vampire Academy I have fallen in love with this series.

After finishing Vampire Academy I immediately set up on a quest to obtain Frostbite. Finding it at my
Show More
local Wal-Mart gave me the perfect opportunity to procure the object of my interest. I hoped that this wouldn't be one of those series that has a completely awesome first book and then goes downhill. I was not disappointed.

When a Strigoi attack on royal Moroi family shakes up the vampire world, the school's annual holiday ski trip becomes mandatory for Moroi and Dhampirs alike. Rose's legendary mother, Jean Hathaway appears as well, making for some very interesting interactions between the two.

But when some rogue Dhampir & Moroi students take off after the Strigoi, things get a bit on the hairy side. This book keeps you wondering what will happen, that's for sure. As always the characters are engaging, with new characters being thrown into the mix during this part of the series.

Frostbite left me chomping at the bit to get a copy of Shadow Kiss, the third novel in the series. This series is definitely one that I plan on collecting all of the books to!

As much as I loved Vampire Academy, this one was so much better.

The good thing about the Strigoi (evil, scary vampires that kill the Moroi...and anyone else they want to) is that they tend to travel alone and they're unable to break wards (magic) or deal with sunlight.

Until it turns out that some
Show More
of them are working together and they've got humans to help them, so the magic and the sunlight is no longer a factor. And that Strigoi group is trying to kill all the royal vampire families--as in literally eliminate every single member.

So the Moroi and the Dhampirs (their guardians) have to figure out what to do now.

(And Rose is still trying to figure out how to get Dimitri.)

So insanely good and so action-packed. I'm glad I'm reading this series now because I have the first four books and book #5 is out in two weeks, I think.

This book was as good as the first one. Unlike the perdicable Twilight, in this book you never knew what was going to happen. I am really excited to read the third book.

Ok, some may argue that the ending is quickly wrapped up without telling us about the Strigoi attacks and Rose leaving the school without permission. Maybe I guess it's because of the Mason's incident and that the school understood Rose's situation and decided to let matter rest. So the school
Show More
didn't talk about it. This one keeps me engaged and wanting for more :)

Rose Hathaway’s life is hardly easy. She’s a dhampir, a human guardian for the Moroi, benevolent vampires, of which her best friend Lissa is one. The Moroi must be protected from the Strigoi, truly evil creatures who like to kill the Moroi for the strength their blood provides. Which is why the
Show More
recent murders of prominent royal Moroi families, carefully guarded by dhampirs, are especially disconcerting. It implies organization among the traditionally independent Strigoi, and cooperation with humans.

The students at Vampire Academy thus go to a luxurious Moroi ski resort for winter break, but the trip hardly cools people’s tempers and emotions. Rose loves her trainer Dimitri, even though it’s forbidden and he probably loves another, and so she tries to turn to her friend Mason, who has a crush on her. Dhampir novices are hardly prepared for what Rose must deal with, though, and that’s bloodshed, secrecy, unrest…and loss.

The second installation in the wildly popular Vampire Academy series will hardly disappoint. It contains the usual amounts of good writing, enthralling world-building, and tortured love triangles that I have come to love about Richelle’s books.

What struck me most was Richelle Mead’s absolute confidence with Rose’s voice. For all her faults, doubts, and mistakes, Rose is an impeccable narrator, able to give us all the information we need and engage our full attention at the same time. Never in a thousand years would we want anyone else to narrate this story about dhampirs, Moroi, and Strigoi, simply because Rose is so fascinating (recklessness and all), her voice flawless. Richelle mixes an ideal blend of backstory and current action so that readers are never at a loss for what’s going on and why certain events are so dire.

FROSTBITE delivers in terms of romantic passion as well. You really can’t have a bestselling series without some unforgettable romances, which is why the tensions between Rose, Dimitri, and Mason are so exciting to read about. Lissa and Christian are another interesting couple, despite their relationship not being as important or angst-filled. The introduction and/or further development of other characters suggest possibilities of other match-ups in future installations, so I’m really looking forward to that.

The Vampire Academy series is probably the best that I can recommend out of all the latest books in YA paranormal fiction. If you enjoy engrossing writing, intrigue, and romances that make you sigh for their hopelessness, you need to read this series!

FROSTBITE is an eciting, complex paranormal follow-up to VAMPIRE ACADEMY, with a page-turning plot and awesome characters, whose growth and development over the course of the novel is believable and capturing. Richelle Mead is awseome. This Book was awesome! Everthing fit the vampires, humor, action, romance, and suspense. This is a MUST read series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book even more than the first. The narrator is kick-ass, but still manages to progress throughout the book. This time around, she really learns from her mistakes and is wiser than in the first one. Even though I didn't think much was going on plot wise in the first half of

the book, I thought the ending was surprising. I was also grateful for the change of scenery. My only problem with this book is Lissa. I still don't see why Rose wants to protect her so much....she doesn't seem that great to me. In fact, Lissa was barely present in this one, which was both good and bad. It was good because I dislike Lissa, but bad because if she keeps making such sparse appearances, I will never learn to like her.
It was better than the first, but needs a little bit more work to make it fantastic

Vamps, is the one series that I cannot stop recommending to people. There's something about the world of the Moroi, and Dhampirs figthing the blood thirsty Strigoi that fascinates me at no end, their interaction is somehow realistic. Love triangles, cliff hangers, mystery, politics, new intriguing and interesting characters, sexual tension, and drama, drama, drama. I had a hard time writing this review. I did three revisions. The problem was, I can't seem to shut up, I don't want to give away anything major. I think I finally got myself satisfied with this one, so here goes.Book 1 ends with Victor and Natalie as the perpetrator. Book 2 posed so many complexity in Rose's life. First Dimitri accompanied her on a drove 5 hours for Rose's Qualifier's exam only to find out the guy that would be testing her was dead - massacred, together with his Moroi charge and family. There they found disturbing evidence that humans are possibly involve, she found a silver stake at the ground that clearly cut off the wards. Second, her mother showed up and gave her a black eye when they were on sparring practice. Third, her feelings towards Dimitri is still intact and no matter what distractions and mental pep talk she gives herself, she keep coming back to where she started. Fourth, Lord Adrian - a new character that got some interesting and very suspicious powers. Fifth, her non-existent feelings for Mason. Sixth, the bond that she shared with Lissa. But those are actually petty issues compared on what happened at the end. Another attacked three states away, made a former enemy now their ally. A tragedy caused by wrong judgement resulted in a tragedy that took a life of one of the few important people in her life. She did get her first two Molnija tattoo for decapitating two Strogi but it wasn't as glamorous and she did not feel as proud as she imagined it to be. That last part suck but it was brilliant. I got carried away and felt Rose's pain. Something big is coming up. Rose seems to be getting moody and her personality is becoming darker. What big surprises will I get in reading book 3? Only way to find out...

As teen vampire novels go, this series is pretty entertaining. I like the strong female lead character (much more likable than Twilight's Bella) who continues to mature in this second entry. Though romance is certainly an element, so are friendship and the demands of duty. The author proves in this

This is the second book in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. It was just as engrossing and griping as the first book. This is another one of those series that I just can't put down, yet I am not sure why.

In this book a violent Strigoi attack on a noble Moroi family leaves St. Valdimar's
Show More
academy in a state of panic as the Christmas holidays approach. An elegant solution is presented that will allow the students of the academy to mingle with their parents for the holidays. The whole school is put up in a ski resort for the holiday season; with the highest security measures taken. Lissa is forced to mingle with her noble kindred and much of her time is spent in the company of Christian. Rose finds herself in a lonely situation. Dimitry is doing his best to ignore her and Lissa is otherwise occupied. Rose's life is even further complicated when her famous guardian mother shows up to help with security. As Strigoi attacks continue to get more violent and more frequent, many questions are brought up; among them are whether the Moroi should learn to protect themselves and use their magic to harm others.

This book was well-written, the characters have a lot of depth, and the world is creative and interesting. The action scenes are well-written. The love scenes are sweet without being overly explicit. The binding between Rose and Lissa is interesting. The inclusion of both Adrian and a new love interest for Dimitri made for wonderful new character additions. Throughout the whole book is a overlying sense of urgency and doom as if the Moroi are being marched toward their extinction. The next book promises to have even more dire situations and more interesting character development.

I could not put this book down. I had to blink back tears at the ending for a number of reasons, it was sad and yet hopeful. It takes a good author to drag a reader into a story that thoroughly. The only thing that has bothered me about this series is that I think the book titles are a bit corny and the book covers could also use some help. That is a small quip though based on how much I have loved this series!

I was sad to finish this book and can't wait for the next one to come out. I would put this series right up there with the Twilight series given how much I love it.

Frostbite is the second book in the amazing Vampire Academy series written by Richelle Mead. The first book was great but the second one is even better. Rose is 6 months away from her graduation; she'll be a full fledged guardian. She has to meet a very well known guardian for an evaluation, and
Show More
since he can't leave the moroi he is protecting, Rose and Dimitri heads out to meet him. Only what they found wasn't what they expected. The entiere royal family and their guardians have all been slaughtered, evidences points in the direction of an alliance between strogois and humans. School is now on a high alert and many guardians comes in to protect the young ones, including Rose's mother. All school is brought on a mandatory ski trip and Rose meets Adrian who's disliked by all her friends due to his reputation. He isn't the one who will get them in trouble tho. Everything goes wrong when 3 students leave the school wanting to take out a group of strogois by themselves and of course Rose can't let that happen. She's running after them with Christian and finds more then she wished for.
I am totally in love with Rose personality, her dilemma between Dimitri and Mason, her hard time dealing with her mother, her sense of honor and how she does everything to protect the ones she loves. She isn't perfect, she got her flaws and that's what makes her so interesting. You grow with her as the series develops. It is definitely my favorite series! Even tho it's young adult rated, I promise you adult will find their share of excitement in this novel. I was very glad I already had the third book of the series in my possession, waiting for the release would have been torture!

Book 2 in this fantastic series has a grisly opening. Rose gets a healthy dose of realism when she discovers a massive Strigoi attack on a Moroi family. Strigoi aren’t known for working in large groups, so this attack has the school in chaos. It’s winter break at St. Vladimir's but families are
Show More
too scared to allow their children to come home. To keep the students safe, they congregate at a posh ski resort that is heavily guarded. More Guardians are brought in, including Rose's kick-ass, respected, Strigoi-killing mother, Janine Hathaway. Too bad Rose’s opinion of her mother is anything but perfect. Mommy issues, anyone? The Moroi get together to talk strategy, and Christian’s aunt Tasha brings up a great idea that is shot down due to her family’s history. And maybe because the Moroi find it completely out of question. Some of the students aren’t happy that the Moroi are bickering about the threat instead of acting…

Mason, Rose’s fellow Guardian-in-training and best guy friend, has a major crush on her. Rose realizes that he could be good for her but is conflicted about how to handle the relationship while completely enraptured by Dimitri, someone she feels she can never have. Oh, dear irresistible, forbidden Dimitri. What is a girl to do? It doesn’t help that Tasha, a beautiful, fierce, available royal is flirting with Dimitri and breaking open his hard shell via laughter. Rose is furious and very upset, but does she even have a say?

Rose is also transported into Lissa’s head more due to Lissa’s overwhelming emotional states. She and Christian are getting serious, and with that comes exploration. Sounds like a situation any best friend would like to find themselves in, no? Ha, not. Lissa was not as prominent in this book, and while she serves as a very important piece in this series, I’m still not enamored by her character. She is Rose’s best friend, but sometimes I feel like that is a one-way street. However, Lissa learns more about Spirit in this book, and can we just say that her abilities far surpass those of any of the other magical elements. So rad. And I adore Christian. His witty, snarky comments liven up the pages of a sometimes very somber series. He’s one of my favorite characters, for sure.

A new character is introduced – Adrian Ivashkov, a royal Moroi and great-nephew of the queen, Tatiana. Adrian is hot for Rose, and makes his intensions known upfront. Adrian is quite hot himself and is known as a lady killer. He’s also quite the lush, and reeks of alcohol and tobacco 24/7. Self-medicating, perhaps? Rose is inexplicably drawn to him but resists his attempts. He also has the ability to visit her in her dreams, which is creepy beyond belief, but quite intriguing. Who is this guy?

Three of Rose’s friend decide to leave the safe confines of the ski resort in search of the Strigoi group that is responsible for the recent kills. 3 students decide to take matters into their own hands. Not a good equation. When Rose hears of this, she asks for Christian’s assistance, and they set off to save their comrades. Seeing Rose and Christian work as a team was quite exciting and I look forward to more of that! However, what Rose and crew are confronted with will forever change their lives.

Throughout this book, you see a major growth in Rose. She is no longer the party girl with a questionable reputation, one who would jump at the chance to show off. Rose is now the voice of reason and remains level-headed in the midst of danger. She has matured greatly. This series smacks you around with emotions, as well as a healthy does of action. The plot advances, the characters grow, and the world expands. Good stuff!

After the lite urban fantasy of Vampire Academy, try on something just a little darker with Frostbite.

Welcome back to St. Vlad's. Christmas is quickly approaching and the wilds of Montana are freezing. The students are all looking forward to their holiday break until a brutal Strigoi (the bad
Show More
vampires) attack on a family of Moroi (the good vampires) and their Dhampir guardians (half-bloods) leaves the vampire community reeling in shock. Not only is the murder violent but marked by the number of Strigoi it would take for such an attack and their involvement of humans. Fearing for the safety of the students and their families the students of St. Vlad's head to Wyoming for a ski trip in a Moroi owned resort.

Rose and Lissa are back, with new problems brewing. Rose keeps getting sucked into Lissa's mind when her friend is with her boyfriend, Christian. But Rose has boy troubles of her own. She's got it bad for her mentor, Dimitri, who is too old for her and will be guarding Lissa with her after graduation. At the same time her best guy pal, Mason (who has had an obvious crush on her for a long time), would be a great boyfriend and could help her get over Dimitri. When she realizes she's not sure about Mason her actions send he and a group of fellow students out of the safety of the resort and into harm's way.

While the first book was good, Frostbite started off shaky. I was pretty worried it wasn't going to win me over. But when the real trouble starts happening about halfway into the book this story got good. Really good. If you liked the first book you will LOVE this one. Rose is growing up, maturing as much as she can and I found that I began to like her a lot more, even relate to her for the first time. Lissa's role in this one was considerably smaller, but other secondary characters from Vampire Academy rounded this story out well. I even grew to like Mia by the end of the book.

While still lite for the urban fantasy genre Frostbite was very dark in the final chapters and without getting spoilerish I recommend you bring some tissues if you're sensitive like I am. I can't wait for the third book--Shadow Kissed!

Now here is a second in series I can feel good about. It doesn't let you down like some series do after the first book. It's the same storyline, but more evolved, and you learn more about Rose and Dimitri (Kudos to myself for spelling it right without cheating!) and Lissa.

You also get more

involvement from a few of the other characters.

I will say that I cried a lot. A LOT.

The only complaint that I have is that I accidentally started the third book first and sorta blew a wee bit of the second book, but that was my own fault for not paying attention to order. On the bright side, chapter one of book three was promising!

The second installment of the Vampire Academy series was no disappointment. In fact, I'd say its better than the first. Rose and her mentor discover a grisly murder of vampires and guardians alike when he takes Rose to where a "legend" is living so she can be tested in her progress as a guardian.
It seems the Striogi have enlisted the help of humans to help the attack in the daylight hours.
Following this incident, rather than all the students at the Academy going home for the holidays, they all go to a "vampire resort" fully staffed and guarded. Lissa finds a cousin, who she can relate to, Rose gets into multiple conflicts with her mother, tries to get over Dimitri, and start sometheing with Mason.
The bad part? A handful of her friends decide to to to Spokane on thier own Striogi hunt, and Rose goes after them, and find herself faced with issues, worries, and things to handle she never really considered.
A very well crafted book, and without the stumbling flashbacks of the first. Im onto the 3rd one!

I was never more happy to own an eReader as I was after finishing up Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I finished that book during Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon and immediately wanted to move

into the next book in the series. As the stores were closed that wasn't a possibility but thanks to the power of the internet I was able to download a copy on to Anne the eReader. Praise be for the digital age!

Frostbite picks up shortly after Vampire Academy ends this time though the story takes us from Montana to a ski lodge in Idaho. Rose again takes the narration of the story and I think that it was a good choice. Rose is such a strong character she really brings the world that Mead has built to life. Lissa, the maori princess who Rose guards, often comes across as a bit of milkmaid and I don't think she'd be able to carry the story. Rose is flawed and unapologetic. If she believes in something she'll do what ever it takes to do what she thinks needs to be done. This is both a strength and a weakness of hers that I cherish. The tension between her and Dimitri, her teacher, is palpable and grows stronger with each turn of the page.

Mead is a gifted story teller and her world springs up around you as you read. I was immersed in this story from the first page. There was mystery, adventure and romance. I cheered for Rose during her successes and yelled at her when I saw she was making a bad choice. I've said it before but I'll say it again. I love Rose for her strengths and her flaws. She is so very real and I completely captivated by her story. I am so glad that I picked up this story and can't wait to see where the series takes us next.

As in the first book, Rose steals the show in this one again. I’d have to say I have never read a dynamic and exciting character as her. Her off comments, her toughness, and her thoughts elicited either a chuckle, or a cheer from me. I’d say Rose will be one of my favorite characters ever, and
Show More
one of the most enjoyable to read.

This time around, the plot was good, although not as intriguing or mysterious as the first one. It still had its interesting moments though, and I thought the storyline with Rose and her mother was done very well. I rather like how Rose played tough, especially in front of her mom (with rather painful results) and her mom is exactly the same way. However both of them also have a soft side to them which neither will show to one another. Their relationship is awkward and they often clash because of their strong personalities and despite this, there’s a underlying deep respect. I thought Rose acted a little childish in this book though and it did get annoying in certain parts of the book. I’m glad Dimitri and her mother gave her a good telling off for her behavior however, how long it’ll take for Rose to stay that way one can never tell.

I absolutely LOVE the tension between Rose and Dimitri in this book. Wow! you can most certainly feel it and the emotions they’re feeling is plain to see. I absolutely love the way both of them are portrayed. Lissa and Christian make a great couple, although because they’re in many ways ‘perfect’ for each other, I think they’re not as exciting to read about than Rose and Dimitri. I am taking a liking to Lissa though, she’s starting to develop into her own character and not always having to hang off Rose all the time. I’m really liking the fact that she’s starting to go on her own and her personality is growing stronger. I’m hoping her character will get even more stronger in the next book.

The ending of this one was a bit of a shocker although shame on me for not seeing this one coming. I think Rose is about to overcome quite of few changes to her life. Whether that changes her personality, we’ll see in the further books to come. There’s isn’t much of a cliffhanger ending, but the particular story arc finishes and you’re basically prepared to read the next ‘episode’.

This book focuses more on Rose’s development, and it’s written well. The main plot advances just enough to keep the reader entertained yet at the same time, wanting us to keep on reading this fantastic series.

What I LOVED: I am really enjoying this series. The characters are engaging, especially Rose and Lissa, the storyline is well-paced and intriguing, and the issues are dealt with in very real ways that take in account their age and the unique obstacles presented in the outline of this world.

What I
Show More
LIKED: I really liked the visual that is St Vlads and all other locations used in this book. I am really digging the amount of description she is using without going to overboard. It is like the environment is a quiet background character that adds to every scene. I guess I really took notice in this book in the scenes that included the ski lodge and the jet (just two examples).

What I DID NOT LIKE/SO SO: Not a darn thing goes into this category.

Why it got a 4.5: This was almost a 5. I really did enjoy it more than I did the first one and that is saying a lot since I really enjoyed the first book.
