Once I got past the acronyms appearing on nearly every page this novel became a bit interesting.

Before turning to writing Hoffman was working within the subject area of the novel. It shows! She brings her obvious knowledge and expertise into the novel, which is understandable but unbearable. It
Show More
isn't always relevant either.

The plot is good, you may have it worked it out quickly. I didn't which was the main reason for finishing it.

For the first time I can remember, I made it to page 281 of this 323 page book and didn't finish it. I didn't care how it ended, I just wanted it to END. Maybe if I'd read the first book in the series, I would have been more invested in the characters but this just seemed to drag on pointlessly and
Show More
never fully drew me in. Blech.

One of the worst books I've ever read, and also part of a smaller subset, never finished. Just awful writing and story.

Hoffman did an excellent job explaining the legal system, but the story was weak. CJ Townsend is a rape survivor and an ADA who takes down bad guys left and right, but she spends the whole book being a wimp and whining. I'm not sure if the book was supposed to be a gritty crime novel with some
Show More
romance or a romance novel with a mystery. Either way, I won't be reading anything else in the series. Y'all know I do not do romance novels!

READ IN DUTCH

I didn't read the first book in this series - I know, my bad - but it really felt like I missed a lot, because this book has so many ties to the first one. I would definitely recommend you to start reading the first book, Retribution, because I felt like I missed a great deal.

The story
Show More
itself is quite interesting, cops are being killed and it seems like someone knows about a cover-up that has taken place in - you guessed it- the first book. The writing is nice, the book is fast paced and a lot happens. Still, I never really got the feeling that I really was enjoying the story though. It just didn't seem special enough.
