Description

Appearances can be deceptive; but the truth is a dangerous thing ...On the night Brian Bishop murdered his wife he was sixty miles away, asleep in bed at the time. At least that's the way it looks to Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, who is called in to investigate the kinky slaying of beautiful socialite, Katie Bishop. Roy Grace soon starts coming to the conclusion that Bishop has performed the apparently impossible feat of being in two places at once. Has someone stolen his identity or is he simply a very clever liar? As Roy Grace digs deeper behind the facade of the Bishops' outwardly respectable lives, it becomes clear that everything is not at all as it first seemed. Then he digs just a little too far, and suddenly the fragile stability of his own troubled world is facing destruction ...… (more)

I really like the DS Roy Grace series although I found this one a bit laborious in some parts. I think this was due to the fact I have an in-built horror regarding people getting the blame for something they are innocent of which is a large part of the story. Also, I had worked out very early on in

the book what must have happened although there was a very interesting twist on this at the end.

Having said all this it was still a good read with the characters developing and interacting nicely. Fine attentiion to detail and continuity make everything fit together neatly.

An interesting plot which keeps the suspense with sharp dialogue and rounded characters, all set in an authentic Brighton backdrop. Some of the post mortem scenes may be a bit gory for those of a sensitive nature though. This is one of a number of Superintendent Roy Grace stories.

I listened to the excellent Recorded Books edition of this title - Peter James is a great new discovery and I hope he becomes more popular in the US! Excellent pacing and use of various points of view.

A great crime thriller, set in Brighton. The writer's local knowledge really shines through - and the setting makes a refreshing change from London, Manchester etc. Our hero, Roy Grace is a great character and this novel develops his personal story a bit more which fits nicely alongside the main

plot, the murder of two women. They are the wife and lover of the same man and he is the prime suspect. Can Roy Grace work out whether he did it or not?

The second book in the series I've read, and a bit of a disappointment. The twist is just not strong or unpredictable enough to bear the considerable weight of the novel, and while the writing is good and very readable, as a whole the novel fails to hang together

Well doesn't our Knight in shining armour save the damsel in distress at the end. This series all have dead in the title, which is a clue to how tired this genre has become.

A very exciting climax in this one. A very enjoyable book all round. 4.5 Stars.

I love this series and I loved the twist in the tail. I also like the fact that the mystery of what happened to Grace's wife is still on going - was it her that his friend saw in Munich and if so why is she there? Can't wait to read the next one.

Once in a while I like to reread favorite series by favorite authors, and Peter James's Roy Grace series certainly meets the criteria. As usual, Peter James has written a well plotted thriller with an elusive criminal who continues to wreak his havoc while being pursued by the intelligent and

determined Detective Superintendent Roy Grace and his crew. The process involves several of the characters that we've already met in the previous books. His characters are smart, funny, and utterly human. No superstars here able to wave a magic wand and solve a complicated crime. It's all about hard work, ferreting out the facts, and working them together with his peers. Kinda like putting together a 1,000-piece puzzle. The problem with this case is that the pieces keep moving. It's fun watching Roy move the pieces around until he has the answers. I seldom recommend books since everyone has different tastes, but I diffidently would recommend this series to anyone that enjoys tense crime thrillers.
