Marriage is great, but it's not forever. It's until death do us part. Then comes eternal rewards or regrets depending on how we spent our lives. In his latest book, Francis Chan joins together with his wife Lisa to address the question many couples wonder at the altar: "How do I have a healthy marriage?" Setting aside typical topics on marriage, Francis and Lisa dive into Scripture to understand what it means to have a relationship that satisfies the deepest parts of our souls. In the same way, Crazy Love changed the way we saw our personal relationship with God, You and Me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity will radically shift the way we see one of the most important relationships in our life. This was an encouraging read. It is more about how to live out your personal faith in Jesus and how your relationship with him will positively impact how you view your marriage. It is not a marriage book in the traditional sense. It actually offers some counter intuitive advice.

I gave this book 4

stars because I struggled to connect with Lisa's writing voice. Some of her advice was based on her personal circumstances and personality traits. I had difficulty relating to her but feel comfortable recommending the book to other marriages because there may women out there who do. I resonated more with Francis' writing.

Overall, I was reminded of the scope of this life in relation to the next. Maintaining that perspective helps keep my relationships in order. When my relationships are in order, they are blessed with joy and peace, despite any external circumstances.

I highly recommend it for couples who are already fairly stable in the relationship and are looking to take their marriage to the next level, but couples in any stage of their relationship will benefit from the truths therein.

This book focuses more on making sure your relationship with God is right, because then your priorities with your spouse/kids/family will fall into place.

My favorite line in this is about winning marital fights. They say that whoever wins is usually the one who is being the LEAST Christ-like.

That's so very true, but in the heat of the moment it's hard to focus on having that attitude.
