Administration in Contract E(04-3)-1078. The STTF is to be located at Albuquerque, New Mexico, and will serve the testing needs of the ERDA Solar Thermal Program. The facility will have the capability for testing scale models of major subsystems comprising a solar thermal electrical power plant. The first solar thermal program power plant to be supported by the STTF will be a 10 MWe (megawatt electric) water/steam pilot plant to be operational by 1980. Provisions have been made in STTF planning to allow testing of subsystems and components being developed by private organizations. High temperature processing, materials research, and other developments which could utilize highly concentrated solar energy may also benefit from the STTF.
