ponds represent a technically feasible, environmentally benign, and economically attractive energy producing alternative. In order to bring this emerging technology to maturity, however, much research and development effort remains to be undertaken. Specific R&D areas requiring the attention and action of technical workers and decisionmakers are discussed, both from the perspectives of smaller, thermally-oriented ponds and larger, electricity generating ponds.
