Abstract:
The design of solar pond electric power generation systems is reviewed to delineate factors which may affect worker health and safety. Materials handling problems are identified, including brine production and circulation hazards. Toxicity of microorganisms and of pond additives is

considered, as well as salt intrusion and dispersal. Each appears to have a potential negative health effect. An effect of the water supply quality on worker health may arise from impurities in the water and from waste disposal. This is of major importance if agricultural runoff waters are used. Other hazards identified include fire and reduced visibility hazards .
