ABSTRACT:
The suitability of various heliostat mirror module designs for large solar central power systems, depends in part on the ability of the reflective surface to survive over the expected lifetime, with little loss in reflectivity. Recent observations on several module designs revealed

significant deterioration of the silvered surface in an unexpectedly short time span. This report documents current information on the extent and nature of the deterioration noticed on several mirror module designs, on the accelerated tests designed to simulate field deterioration, on the potential design solutions available, on the parameters necessary for conducting useful accelerated weathering tests, and on the nature of commercially prepared mirrors.
