Summary
(from author) "This zine is a collection of Afghan superstitions that I personally heard growing up, as well as collected from friends and family. Interspersed are photos of my family from the 1980's.
--
In an Afghan-American household, I grew up hearing a number of superstitions from my mom and grandmother, Bobo. “Don’t clip your nails at night” or “don’t take a nap at dusk, it means your parents won’t live a long life.” I didn’t realize how wonderfully odd, how weirdly beautiful the world of Afghan superstitions is until I was a teenager.
Superstitions, mythology, and other folklore are part of the way of life in Afghanistan. It’s a country ravaged by decades of war, comprised of different ethnic tribes, and holds a relatively low literacy rate. As a result, storytelling, myths, and folklore are a vital part of Afghan culture."
