This book describes a personal journey down the Pacific coast from Alaska the Olympic peninsula. In it, the author describes both the natural processes going on along the coast and in the coastal forests, but hte human processes also going on and often conflicting with the natural processes. The

beauty of the coast comes through in this book as does the wildness. Tree cutting, especially in the old growth areas is shown as very serious and unabated. The fragile nature of the soil supporting the ancient forest is detailed and mentioned numeerous times.

This is one of those books that is hard to put down once started.
