Description

Dom Cobb is the best there is at extraction; stealing valuable secrets inside the subconscious during the mind's vulnerable dream state. His skill has made him a coveted player in industrial espionage, but also has made him a fugitive and cost him dearly. Now he may get a second chance if he can do the impossible; inception, planting an idea rather than stealing one. If they succeed, Cobb and his team could pull off the perfect crime.

This film was recommended to me by a friend and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. It has a clever premise. There is a way to invade your dreams and steal information from you--but much more difficult is "inception" where you can plant ideas. A team is put together to do just

that--to convince the heir to a fortune to break up his company. I think we're not supposed to care about this violation of his person because what he owns is a big bad oil company--but it bothered me. But the film really is an e-ticket--a great ride with a great cast and gorgeous special effects.

A team of criminals commits industrial espionage in peoples' subconscious minds.

It's a fun ride, but kind of frustrating. There's really only one scene where they take advantage of the possibilities of setting a story in a dream and put the amazing special effects to work on something cool. That
Show More
scene is worth the price of admission, but it's early in the movie, and everything that follows it is annoyingly uncreative. (There's some significant build-up to a mind-bending labyrinth which we never even get to see). And I don't want to think about trying to figure out the plot to the degree where I could say whether or not it actually makes sense. I don't think there'd be any reward for the effort. None-the-less, I find myself constantly trying to figure it out, and I would like to stop.

While it irks me how this movie's gotten famous for its concepts (which are really fairly basic science fiction notions explored in countless other stories before), it should rightly be praised for its executions. The juggling of simultaneously being an action film, a heist film, psychological

thriller and high concept philosophical sci-fi is flawless, and all the more impressive for also needing to do a ton of exposition while balancing several different plotline simultaneously (albeit in different time paces). THAT accomplishment is astounding, and makes for a very, very good and memorable film.

A clever excuse to have lots of fighting without actually having lots of fighting.

The plot is filled with such intricacies that even expatiation would be incapable of justifying its profundity. The movie is about a futuristic world where the human mind can be intercepted through dream invasion. Cobb is an expert in the art of extracting information (stealing valuable secrets)

from deep within the subconscious in the dream state. His proficiency in extraction is marred by a turmoil that begins with his wife's untimely death. He is forced to live the life of a fugitive away from his children. His only chance for redemption lies with a Japanese tycoon named Saitu, who wants him to do an inception (planting information into someone's mind). In order to accomplish this unprecedented task, Cobb and his team must overcome a labyrinth of unforeseeable challenges, where even a slight miss could trap them in a perpetual limbo.
