Miles is a divorced man and a failed writer who teaches junior high English. He decides to take his best friend, somewhat famous actor Jack, on a weeklong drive through California's wine country. There they explore their failures and question their relationships. Jack, who is about to get married, has an affair with a woman and wonders whether he should call off his wedding. Miles questions whether or not he made the right choice while trying to form a relationship with the woman's best friend, a waitress at a restaurant that he frequents often when visiting that part of the country.

Two middle-aged men go on a tour of wine country before one of them gets married. The humor is subtle and dry and real. The performances are very good-though I think the hype for Madsen is too much. I liked Sandra Oh's performance a lot better. Giammatti (though I found him affected at first) was

amazing as always, but the one who really rocked my socks was Thomas Hayden Church.

Another note-I love the set dec in Payne's films. The houses look like real houses. The cars look like real cars. The extras look like real people. So few movies feature places that look really lived in.
