It's a short but very informative collection of stories and biographies of the more and less known women of the Gold Rush era. Very interesting selection of characters: wives and mothers, entrepreneurs, actresses, Native women, the poor immigrants and the wealthy middle-class, and all those others

who did or did not manage to make the best out of the new opportunities in the North. The book also covers a general history of the gold rushes of the north and what life was like for both the Natives and the newcomers at the time. All this supported by some great photographs of those pioneering times. A fascinating read, recommended to all interested in the Gold Rush theme as well as in the North (Alaska/ Yukon).

Loved hearing about courageous women who were very out of their element in so many ways.
