Exceptional illustrations and a folkloric, sometimes tongue-in-cheek story, with humorous dialogue between Philip Stead and "Mark Twain." I loved the chicken "Pestilence and Famine" - long-suffering and loyal to Johnny. The history of the story is interesting, too.

Charming and funny with a solid story and interesting characters. The audio is lovely, and the book book is full of softly colored illustrations. Either would make a good bedtime read, and it could be an easy way to introduce a reader to Twain's brand of humor.
