Description

Writer-director Greta Gerwig has crafted a film that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott and unfolds as the author's alter ego, Jo March reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig's take, the beloved story of the March sisters, four young women each determined to live life on her own terms, is both timeless and timely.

An aspiring writer has a sick sister.

2.5/4 (Okay).

This is for people who already know the book well. Going in with only a vague familiarity, I was often lost as to what the narrative direction was meant to be, or where anything went chronologically. Also, it feels like it was edited down from a

Excellent adaptation of the classic book. Slightly confusing at first as the action switches between episodes in 'Good Wives' and 'Little Women', seven years apart. But although Amy struggles to look twelve in the flashback sections, Jo does well, and Meg does brilliantly. Meryl Streep is superb as

Aunt March, and Laura Dern makes a very believable Marmee. Jo - Saoirse Ronan - is the main character, her writing struggles and successes packaging this adaptation in a more modern feel despite being set authentically in its era.

Very highly recommended, so long as you don't mind some significant deviations from the classic books.

I think my mother summed up this film "It was interesting but not the best "Little Women" film". I found the time jumping did remove your emotional attachment to the characters. However, I did like the inclusion of much of the plot of "Good Wives" as that did distinguish it from all the other films

of LW. It was also a bit too long for me. So an enjoyable couple of hours but I wouldn't want to watch it again.
