An interesting book on how Dr. Seuss became Dr. Seuss. Very student friendly.

This book was a very good one I must say. I was impressed while I was reading it, because I never knew that Dr. Seuss came from this history. I think that the children would also have the same feeling that I had for this book. I think this because many of them read Dr.Seuss boos but yet they do not
Show More
know the roots of the history. Therefore I would teach them about it.

Genre: Biography - This book is a good example of a biography because it is a true story about Ted Seuss Geisel, all that is written is facts about his life and they can be proven. Although some tiny little details, like dialogue, may have been made up to make it into a more child friendly book,
Show More
the author took his life and important facts and made it into a story that children would enjoy. The students can learn a lot about him from this book, it would be easy for them to understand. This book accurately describes his life and how he became an author, and it is very interesting, he did a lot in his lifetime and he should be remembered for it in a book like this.

Plot: The plot of this book was Ted Seuss Geisel's life and if any of it was changed then it would no longer be the genre that it is, which is a biography. Then it would be realistic or even historical fiction, because he does have a place in history because of what he did. It would be fiction because they would be adding in made up things to something that could have really happened.

This book details Geisel's life as a young boy. It has more text than the average picture book, making it ideal for older readers. This book provideds intresting facts about the author's life and how he accidentally became the most beloved children's author of our time.

I think that this book was very interesting. I would read this to my students before studying Dr. Seuss if that is what the topic to study was going to be. This is a very good book that would help in telling the children that everyone can achieve their dreams no matter how far fetched they may be.

A biography of Dr. Seuss (Ted Geisel) growing up, up to age 22. Account feels a little brief, and suddenly ends when Seuss is 22; the rest of his life is narrated in a dense annotated timeline in four pages following the main story. Full page illustrations are in a nostalgic, old-fashioned

style (gouache?), with spot illustrations from Dr. Seuss' work on facing pages.
Recommended for ages 10-12.

Insightful biography of the influences on Ted's life that led him to become Dr. Seuss. I liked how each section had realistic drawings of his life and a character from one of his books too.
A great description of his life and life's work after the story ends.

Use to teach background information of
Show More
an author and stretching your imagination. Also, use to teach that Dr. Seuss was a real person since kids may find that hard to believe.

This is a short biography of Ted Geisel for kids. It tells of how Ted was an exaggerator whose parents and teachers were worried about him ever amounting to anything. While at school in England a classmate commented on one of his drawings and encouraged him to continue with his work. After getting
Show More
a break from a magazine he eventually became the Dr. Seuss we all know and love.

Even though this was written for kids, I learned a lot about Dr. Seuss that I didn't know.

I would read this to the students after reading several Dr. Seuss books. I would ask them to use their imaginations and write a short story about an imaginary animal.

A wonderful book about a boy becoming a man, and about how he learned that he could make a career at being an artist and a writer. I love the illustrations of Johnson and Fancher. I would read this book to all children of all ages. Because of how successful Dr. Seuss was and because almost EVERY
Show More
child loves his storybooks, this book might be especially helpful with a child who has trouble fitting in. Or a child who has strange talents that they feel aren't valuable.

This was a very informative book on Ted Geisel's life. The illustrations complement the text and help to illustrate the story of his life. I especially liked the addition of Geisel's own illustrations at the bottom of each page. This short biography can be read aloud to students of all ages, and
Show More
older students would enjoy reading it to find out what Geisel was like as a child. The author included interesting and important details about Geisel's life. This is a story about following your dreams and not giving up even when it seems impossible. The author includes more information in the back of the book that chronicles Geisel's adult life. There is also a list of all the books he wrote and illustrated and suggested websites.

A great book to read to children that discusses "...How Ted Geisel Grew Up to Become Dr.Seuss." Krull does a terrific job of describing the major events in Geisel's life that led to his creativity in his books. One of the major impacts on Geisel, is his dad. He would take him to the zoo, as he
Show More
owned one. He then would give him pencils and paper where he started to draw all of his crazy creatures that led to his widely known book, "If I Ran the Zoo." Almost all of his books have crazy zoo animals that add a twang to his books. Before reading a Dr. Seuss books, I would recommend reading this one first.

This is the story of Dr. Seuss’ childhood. He was made fun of and discouraged by many but never let it bring him down. It is a great biography told by Krull who is an expert on the subject. The author’s description accurately portrays where the subject lived, went to school, and worked. The

events in the story help the reader understand the subject’s life. Dr. Seuss is absolutely worthy of a biography and the story of his upbringing is enlightening.

This book about Dr. Seuss shows us how the big dreams of a little boy turned into something unforgettable to millions of people. He loved reading books and visiting the zoo as much as possible when he was young. Through high school he got bullied because he was German; children found any slight

reason to jab at him. World War I was in affect so the Americans took great offence to anything him and his family did. His parents always pushed him to rifle shoot like them or to attend college to become a doctor. Little did they know he would become "doctor" Seuss! Later, while attending college he met a young women who unexpectedly inspired him to pursue his own way of drawing and writing. He eventually married this young women and moved to New York to engage in his own type of art and writing. He was successful and grew old to be one of the most memorable authors. This book is inspirational to all who have big dreams and have been doubted.

I agree with Kathryn's review 100%. It's exactly the kind of biography I would have appreciated when I was little, back when had no interest in any non-fiction. Now that my tastes have broadened, I can actually enjoy it, and recommend it to any child, any fan of Seuss, and, really, any fan of

biographies. 'How a child grew up to be a famous person' is a really neat tactic.
