This is a great book to teach students that bullying is wrong. It talks about a hen who is bullied and how she overcomes the bullying. So, this book not only teaches the bullying is bad, but it also teaches students that are being bullied to stand up for themselves. This might be a great book for a
Show More
class that is having bully issues. The illustrations are very colorful and each page has a small picture of what will happen on the next page in the bottom corner. This is great because students can attempt to guess what is going to happen next before they read it.

This is a story about a hen that is picked on by the other hens and during a storm she is kicked out of the henhouse. She finds a bed outside in a basket and when the river overflows she ends up getting swept away. She finally wakes up and has to fight off different animals along the way until an
Show More
old man grabs and plans to sell her. Her owner ends up getting her back and when the hen returns she remembers her adventure with the other animals. This time she doesn't let the other hens pick on her anymore.

I enjoyed this book along with the pictures and the Chinese writing. This reminds me of when I was telling my oldest that he needs to learn to stand up for himself. This would be a great book for him to read.

I would use this as an extension to reading aloud. I would have the children write about things that they are scared of or they think they can't do and then come up with a solution to overcome them. We would then discuss the various answers as a group.

This book is a good example of fantasy because the hens are given feeling and emotions that you wouldn’t actually know they had. From those feeling the story tells and adventure of a lost hen finding her beloved owner.

This book begins with Mei Mei and her six hens. The story goes on to talk about the smallest hen that Mei Mei has, whose name is Daisy. Since Daisy is the smallest hen, the other hens pick on her and refuse to let her sleep up on their perch in the henhouse. Every time she tries to go to sleep the
Show More
other hens push her off onto the cold, wet floor. One night, Daisy does not feel like being pushed around so she sets out to make a bed of her own in a basket; however, she does not realize that the basket begins to float along the river while she is sleeping. Throughout her little journey she encounters monkeys and a water buffalo. In the end she is captured by a fisherman who intends to seel her at the market. Mei Mei goes to the same market to sell her eggs, sees Daisy, and saves her before she can be sold. This is a great book and I would definitely read it to my class.

As she continues to float down the river she meets other animals who she has to stand up to and evenutally comes across a fisherman who takes Daisy to the market to sell her. Back at the farm Mei Mei realizes that Daisy is gone so she goes to the market to sell her eggs and find Daisy. A little girl has six hens that she loved very much and all but one were very happy. The other was always picked on and bullied by the others. One day he had enough and went to find a new place to sleep in a basket by the river - not knowing it would fall in the river and float away. He passed many
Show More
animals along the way and learned to defend himself. He was found by a fisherman who took him to the market where the girl found him. When he went back home he got along with the other hens. Since he learned to defend himself, the other hens had more respect for him.

This book had good illustrations. It actually had two on each page. One to tell the story about the hen and one behind the story view, mostly of the girl looking for her mising hen as he was gone. It was different to see dual illustrations for one story, but at the same time good because it enable more understanding od the story.

I like this story. I would use it to teach a moral lesson. You should not ignore your problems. You just need to find a way to deal with them.

I enjoyed reading the book, "Daisy Comes Home." I would read this book to second or third grade. The book takes place in China. The story is about a hen who gets lost. The hens were called happy hens and they produced brown eggs for their owner to sell. Daisy was their owners favorite because all
Show More
the other hens picked on her. That night the other hens had pushed her sleeping basket out into the lake. Daisy floated away and a fishman found her. The nest day when their owner went to market to sell the eggs she saw daisy with the fisherman and got her back. When she came home the other hens tried to pick on her again but she stood up to them and now they all get along. i think that this book would be really good if you are dicussing different cultures. The book showed a chinese market and village, and that is not something out typical elementary class would see everyday. The book also had the lesson not to pick on others and how it hurts their feelings. All in all I really thought this was a good book.

This book is about a hen named Daisy who is smaller than all the other hens. She is smaller and not confident in herself. Daisy falls asleep in a basket and floats around the river and interacts with different animals. This book portrays to children that they should not make fun of other people for
Show More
their difference. It also shows children that if they are being picked on they should not let people continue to do it.

This adventure story has several possible lessons for young readers to learn. Young readers can learn the importance of taking care of animals and people that can’t defend or care for themselves and they also learn the importance of self defense. A Chinese girl loses one of her chickens who
Show More
embark on a journey to return home. Each step of the adventure places the chicken in another precarious situation. The final struggle comes at the hand of a man that is tired of eating fish and is going to have a “tender young chicken” instead. After surviving this final obstacle, the chicken returns home where she shows the others that she learned to defend herself and won’t take any abuse.

The illustrations add to the story tremendously. It might survive as a wordless picture book.

The story would make a great starting point for a choices and consequences unit.

In China there is a girl owns hens, and sells their eggs in the market. The hens she own are known in the town as “happy hens.” There was one hen, Daisy, who was always bullied by the other hens; so one night she went to sleep in a basket. The basket began traveling down the river while Daisy
Show More
was still inside it. While on the river, she met and scared off various animals. Her journey continued until she bumped into a fisherman, who decided to sell her. Meanwhile, the girl looked for the hen everywhere before leaving to sell her eggs. One of her friends finds the girl selling eggs, and tells her the fisherman has her hen. The girl then goes and tries to get Daisy back, but the fisherman refuses to give up the hen. So the girl uses the same call she used every day to call Daisy over, and then they both head home. That night in the coop Daisy was no longer bullied by the other hens.

This book would be great as a read aloud about prediction. I think students will enjoy this book because it is a very thoughtful and engaging story and they would be interested to see how Daisy gets home.

Jan Brett tells a tale of a chicken that gets bullied and the adventure that she goes on. As expected of a Jan Brett book, the illustrations add depth to the story and make it exciting to read. It is a great book to teach children to overcome their fears and stick up for themselves.
