The illustrations are the central part of this story of a chicken that spills a pot of blue paint. The chicken gets paint on the other barn animals and herself. At first glance, this seems to be a simple picture book, but it has a depth that makes it more useful and educational. Themes of making
Show More
mistakes and apologizing are presented along with themes of reality versus artistry and imagination. This book can be used in different ways for children of various ages. The chicken expresses her sorrow at the mistake and tries to fix it. Older children will relate to making a mistake and needing to fix it. Younger children will not relate to being able to fix a problem themselves, like the chicken does. Words used in the story, like peevish and sincerely, are difficult for young readers, but offer an opportunity to expand the vocabulary of older kids. Younger readers can benefit from identifying the colors and farm animals. The perspectives in the artwork might be confusing for younger audiences. Older children can discuss how the painting relates to the other perspective of the book. This book would be appropriate for a preschool or day care library and grade school libraries.

A clumsy little chicken turns the whole barnyard blue. It also has and underlying message within the storyline that mistakes happen and usually things turn out okay in the end.

I thought this book was very cute. I appreciate the way that it subtly gives the reader the ok to make a mistake and then fix it. The paint was spilled on the chicken jumped out of the piece of art, and then in the end the water washed the mess away, proving that eventhough something happened, in
Show More
this case the paint spill, there is always a solution!

I really liked this book. I thought the first page was great. It made the book feel like it was interactive even though it wasn’t. I think that children would really like this book. It could be used for lower and mid elementary school age children. This would be a book that would fit when talking
Show More
about artists.

We have all been in a position where we want to help but seem to make the situation worse and worse with every try. The relatable idea that Blue Chicken describes is a story we can all have fun telling. This would be a fun book to use in the classroom and then have students tell their own stories
Show More
of when they tried to help but couldn't seem to help how they want to.

Fun, imaginative book for kids to read and look at the pictures. The animals come to life right off the page.

The painting of the barnyard is almost complete. It’s a perfect day for painting the barn. Suddenly, one of the white chickens decides to help. In her hurry to aid the artist, the chicken accidentally knocks over the blue paint. Before long, everything---the chickens, the ducklings, the cat, the
Show More
barn, the whole picture---is blue. The chicken is very sorry and decides to make amends by tipping over another bottle, with the hope that the picture can be fixed.

“At last!
The picture is almost finished.
The chickens are white, their
coop is brown…and this day is
perfect for painting the barn.

But wait. Does one of
the chickens want to help?

Instead of the barn,
she’s painting herself!”

A little chicken causes a big mess when he tries to help out an artist.
This book is really about the illustrations. We see the artist’s picture of a farmyard and a little chicken who just wants to help finish the picture. What’s great is at the end we see out the window of the studio and the
Show More
artist is painting her “real” barn.

A fun story about a chicken that gets into the blue paint and turns the pages and everything else in the illistrations blue. He does fix the problem by using water to clean up his mistake on th epage but leaves the sky blue as it should be. Fun mixture of illistrations and reality as the painting
Show More
of the brn moves from the illistration to an illistration of the outside barn being painted.

Blue Chicken is a picture book about a young chicken who just wants to help the illustrator complete the book. She accidentally paints everyone blue. The illustrator decides to go outside and paint the barn. I really enjoyed the artwork in this book. The watercolors are lively and alternate between
Show More
the images on the page and the "real world" depicted in the book. This book would be an excellent read around book. Many children try to help and sometimes cause harm. Many young children will empathize with the chicken.

This is a creative book about a chicken who just wants to help finish the pictures that are being drawn and painted with watercolors. As the chicken tries to help things just go wrong and it is something that many "helpful" kids can relate to who try to help, but aren't always super helpful. This
Show More
book would be great for any art lesson, best for ones about artists or when doing a watercolor project in teaching the students to be careful or things can go badly like they do for the chicken.

Summary: This is the story of a chicken who tries to help the author finish the book by painting but ends up coloring everything blue and making a mess.
Genre: Picture Book
Personal Reflection: This is a cute story and a unique take that I think kids can relate to.
Concept: This would be a good read
Show More
aloud book. I think kids could relate to the chicken in that sometimes when they try to help they end up making a bigger mess.

The splashy, messy, accident of one chicken causes an ink fiasco on the pages of an absent artists work. An interesting perspective, these characters are the characters of the book come to life while the artist paints his barn.

A very simple book, and to be honest not one I would read aloud to the class, and not one that I would have a lesson for in my current classroom. I would suggest this book for a child to read as a bedtime story, or at home to parents, but I really didn't feel motivated to design a lesson from it. I
Show More
do think it would be good to teach that we all make mistakes, but I don't understand what the author is trying to teach us with this story. My daughter liked it, but she gave the review as "the chicken plays in the paint, and everything becomes blue." That was all she had to say, and this is all I got out of it as well.

Great fun! Love the metafictional aspect of the animals creating their own story.

The illustrations were beautiful, the story sweet.A story about someone painting a picture,as it is finished they decide to let the chicken help paint, but instead of painting what she is suppose to, she paints herself blue, spills the blue paint and everybody and everything ends up blue until she
Show More
spills the white causing everybody and everything to go back to their normal color, except for the sky which stays blue! I think this would be fun to talk about colors, what would happen if the blue got mixed into the yellow? etc.

The chicken doesn't mean to cause trouble. She really just wants to help the artist. But she's a bit clumsy, and soon she's turned her whole world blue! Many kids will relate to the chicken's pedicament.

This is a very cute concept book about a a chicken from a painted farm animal scene. The Chicken hops out of the picture and accidentally spills blue paint all over the rest of the animals in the picture who then get very upset. Some little ducklings spill the water and wash away all the blue,
Show More
turning the picture back into it's original form.

This book is super cute, so simple and yet very charming and artsy! The watercolor illustrations are colorful and fun.

Children have always been in a situation where all they want to do is help, but sometimes helping is not necessarily ideal. Sometimes people have a set vision of what is suppose to happen and how that is suppose to happen. This just comes to show that one has to learn from one's mistakes. Even
Show More
though our intentions are good to begin with, the negatives from our actions outweigh the positives. Sometimes it's better to leave things as they are.

What happens when young chicken wants to help paint the barn on a nice clear day?

This is a cute book that show a chicken who makes everything blue and has an ominous feeling after this. The chicken saves the day and comes up with an idea to to make everything normal.

Sometimes all we want to do is help but we make things worst. I think sometimes this happens to children and this book makes light of a situation gone wrong, just how much trouble can a blue painted chicken get into? A lot and in a farm with other animals trying to go about their day. I think this
Show More
a good humorous book to read because the text are minimal with a great message to know how and when to be careful

A farm scene illustration comes to life when a chicken wanders off the paper to help pain the barn in the picture blue. She unfortunately dumps it all over the other chickens, cow, and everything in the painting is turned to blue. her helpfulness has made the others in the painting angry, but she

tries something else to be helpful and dumps the paintbrush water jar and rinses the blue away, except for in the sky.

This modern fantasy tells the story of a chicken who tries to help paint the barn, but instead, she paints herself. She splatters the cat and everything else around her. All she wanted to do was help and she was sincerely sorry that she made such a mess everywhere because she turned everything

blue. She tries to undo the blue by painting things back to normal. The only thing that is left blue is the sky and she goes back to painting the barn.
