Charlie has a school assignment about birds, so he decides to write his report on the kiwi. As he gave the report, the class did not believe kiwis were real birds because it could not fly. That night, he began to rewrite his report, but could not think of anything to prove the kiwi was a real bird.

When the stuffed kiwi came to life, the two traveled back in time to visit Charlie's ancestor who studied birds. They still could not find why the bird could not fly, so they all traveled further back in time. Charlie then discovered each generation of birds would change and evolve, and how they evolved from dinosaurs.

Interesting approach to introducing evolution, specifically how the kiwi--and all birds--evolved.

A wonderful book to share with every child. The story is about Charlie who wants to make a report about his extraordinary pet, a kiwi, but cannot find an answer why his kiwi is so different from other birds, and cannot fly. To find an answer he time-travels with his five-times-great-grandfather to

places very very early in the past. Millions of years ago, they can find the answer, that birds stem from dinosaurs and just adapted to their surroundings.
Very easily written and added with lots of impressive pictures. It will definitely motivate children to get curious, ask questions, and hopefully make research or do experiments to find an answer.

It is a very nice book, not only about traveling in time, but also about our ancestors and the birds ancestors. On the one hand it explains a lot about dinosaurs and other animals and on the other hand it might inspires people for a such a school project in class. I think the book would be

appropriate as introduction.

discusses Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution. The characters observe how birds evolved and changed. Science terms such as, adaptation and survival of the fittest are explained. I would read this to my students when discussing these subjects. I would give older students different animals that evolved. They would work in groups to research and find out how the animal changed.
